Cardinals vs. Giants Gameday
Arizona heads to MetLife Stadium for a Week 4 matchup with New York on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals are 1-2 under Mike LaFleur, while John Harbaugh’s Giants enter at 2-1 and have won both of their home games.
These teams arrive after very different Week 3 performances.
Arizona rallied in the second half but couldn’t finish the job in a 36-30 road loss to San Francisco. New York played through miserable conditions at MetLife Stadium and squeezed out a 12-7 victory over Tennessee. It wasn’t pretty, but the Giants didn’t need it to be.
Arizona wants to get its offense moving again, while New York seems perfectly comfortable winning ugly.
The Cardinals have dropped two straight after beating the Chargers in their opener. New York has won two of three despite already losing its starting QB for the remainder of the regular season.
That puts some pressure on Arizona to avoid another slow start. The Cardinals showed considerably more life offensively last week, but New York has already demonstrated it can survive a game played at its preferred pace.

Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Giants Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Arizona a slight road favorite. The Cardinals are -125 on the moneyline, New York is +105, and Arizona is laying 1.5 points.
The total is 44.5.
Arizona’s first three games have produced three very different scripts. The Cardinals beat the Chargers 26-14, got drilled 31-7 by Seattle and then traded scores with San Francisco in last week’s 36-30 loss. Trying to pin down this Arizona team hasn’t exactly been a relaxing exercise.
New York’s games have generally been tighter.
The Giants opened with a 28-20 win over Dallas before losing 28-6 to the Rams. They bounced back with the 12-7 victory over Tennessee, giving New York two wins in three games despite scoring only 46 points this season.
The Giants also won the most recent meeting between these teams, rallying from a 21-point deficit for a 31-28 victory in Arizona in 2023. The Cardinals won the previous meeting 26-7 at MetLife Stadium in 2020.

Giants Stats From Last Week
New York’s 12-7 win over Tennessee wasn’t exactly suitable for the highlight reel, but the Giants won’t be giving it back.
The offense finished with 238 total yards and failed to score a TD. Dominic Zvada supplied all 12 points with four FG’s. New York ran the football 33 times and threw it only 22, which tells you exactly what kind of afternoon this became.
Cam Skattebo remained the centerpiece of the backfield.
Skattebo rushed 20 times for 60 yards and added three catches for 40 yards. Najee Harris chipped in 52 yards on nine carries, giving New York enough production on the ground to keep Winston out of obvious passing situations.
The defense did the rest.
Jevón Holland intercepted Cam Ward in the end zone with 17 seconds remaining to seal the victory. Holland has an interception in each of New York’s first three games and enters Week 4 with four total takeaways. That earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Month honors for September.
New York did suffer a major loss against Tennessee. Brian Burns tore his ACL in the fourth quarter and has been placed on injured reserve. The Giants will have to replace one of their top pass rushers starting Sunday.
Cardinals Stats From Last Week
Arizona’s offense finally found some rhythm against San Francisco.
Jacoby Brissett completed 38 of 52 passes for 280 yards and 2 TD’s. The Cardinals ran 86 offensive plays and controlled the ball for nearly 39 minutes, giving the offense plenty of chances to work. Arizona kept coming after falling behind in the second half, but couldn’t finish the comeback.
Rookie Jeremiyah Love also took on a much bigger workload.
Love carried 21 times for 90 yards after totaling 20 carries over Arizona’s first two games. He added five catches and scored a receiving TD.
Michael Wilson had his biggest game of the season with 11 catches for 89 yards and a TD.
The problem was getting San Francisco off the field when it mattered. A third-down roughing-the-passer penalty extended a late 49ers TD drive after Arizona appeared to have a stop. The Cardinals never recovered.
Arizona moved the chains last week, but making an offense work for every score is exactly what New York wants.
The Cardinals have at least protected the football. Arizona enters Week 4 with only one giveaway through three games and hasn’t lost a fumble. That ball security has kept opponents from living on short fields.
Cardinals vs. Giants QB Matchup
Jameis Winston will make his second consecutive start for New York.
Winston took over after Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury against the Rams that will keep him out for the remainder of the regular season. His first start came in brutal weather against Tennessee. New York kept the assignment simple and didn’t ask him to manufacture offense that wasn’t there.
Winston completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards without a TD or interception.
That was good enough.
The Giants leaned on the running game, played field position and avoided asking Winston to win the game by himself. With New York’s defense doing its part, there’s little reason to completely abandon that approach against Arizona.
Jacoby Brissett has started all three games for the Cardinals.
The veteran has completed 82 of 117 passes for 652 yards with 4 TD’s and one interception. He’s completing better than 70 percent of his throws, but Arizona has produced only two pass plays of at least 20 yards. Much of the passing game has been built around Brissett taking what the defense gives him.

“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
That was especially obvious against San Francisco.
Brissett threw 52 passes and completed 38 of them, yet averaged only 5.4 yards per attempt. Arizona sustained possessions with the short passing game rather than repeatedly attacking downfield.
Winston gets a chance to open things up a little more without last week’s rain and wind. That doesn’t mean New York suddenly needs him playing hero ball.
The Giants already have a formula they can live with: run it, protect the football and give their defense a chance. Arizona has been similarly careful with the ball. If neither QB hands the opponent easy possessions, both offenses may have to earn their way down the field.
Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Giants bottom line: both teams have reasons to stay patient offensively, setting up a matchup where long drives and field position could matter more than quick strikes.

Cardinals Giants Free Pick: Under 44.5
Here is my Cardinals Giants free pick: I’m taking Under 44.5. New York scored 12 points last week without finding the end zone once, and now Jameis Winston gets another start in an offense that’s still figuring out life without Jaxson Dart. I’m not expecting Harbaugh to suddenly turn him loose and start chucking it all over MetLife.
The Giants ran it 33 times against Tennessee and asked Winston to throw only 22. That’s a pretty good clue about how they want to play this thing.
New York is perfectly happy making football ugly, and that’s just fine with my Under ticket.
Arizona finally got moving against San Francisco, but it took 86 offensive plays and 52 Brissett passes to get there. The Cardinals aren’t producing many quick strikes, and they’ve protected the football well enough to limit the cheap points that can blow up an Under.
I see New York leaning on the run, Arizona working underneath and both teams making the other earn its points. Give me some long drives and FG’s instead of freebies and I’ll happily take my chances. Give me Under 44.5.
