Green Bay missed a chance to win a divisional game on the road and position itself well to earn a playoff spot in the home stretch. Instead, it dropped a one-score game in Minnesota.
The Packers need to win in Week 13 and it’s got just the team coming into Lambeau Field for that. Arizona is a mighty large 14.5-point underdog in Green Bay.
The Cardinals have long been eliminated from any sort of playoff contention, if not mathematically, than practically. They continued to sink to new lows in Week 12 in Los Angeles.
After taking a quick 10–0 lead, Arizona allowed the next forty-five points of the game in an eventual 45–10 loss to the Chargers.
Phillip Rivers missed just one pass all day — 28 for 29 — including hitting on his first twenty-five to set a new NFL record. He finished with an efficient 289 yards and three touchdowns.
Melvin Gordon did go out of the game with an injury for the Bolts, which could spell trouble for the AFC hopefuls but there wasn’t much positive that happened in the Arizona camp after the quick lead.
Steve Wilks not looks like a man who has to save his job in the final month of the season. The Cardinals had played hard in previous weeks but Arizona Central published a piece online after the game on Sunday suggesting the Cardinals have given up.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers missed a chance to get back to .500 and take a leap forward in the playoff hunt Sunday night in Minnesota. Aaron Rodgers threw for just 198 yards and, like last week against Seattle, Green Bay’s offense disappeared in the second half of a 24–17 defeat.
Aaron Jones got seventeen carries and caught a few balls out of the backfield and Davante Adams caught five balls for seventy yards but the Packers’ defense gave up nearly 350 yards passing to Kirk Cousins.
The Packers are a game-plus behind the pack of NFC Wild Card seekers. The Redskins, Seahawks and Panthers are all 6–5 in second place in their respective divisions. The Vikings are 6–4–1.
The good news is that the Packers can get to 6–6–1 with wins at home in the next two weeks over the Cardinals and Falcons. Then they play two crucial road games, at Chicago and at the Jets. They finish at home against the Lions.
Four wins in those five games could be enough but the Pack really may need to run the table. It’s happened before but Rodgers has lost eight consecutive road starts. For now, just win at home.
