Jets 2021 Season Preview
Looking for 2021 New York Jets Predictions? After another disappointing season, the Jets cleaned house in the offseason. The first big move was bringing in former San Francisco Defensve Coordinator Robert Saleh to be the coach. He has been on the top of a lot of lists for a while and by all measures appears to be a good hire.
The other big move was cutting bait with first round quarterback Sam Darnold, trading him to Carolina. For the past few seasons he has underwhelmed but in fairness the team seems to have made one blunder after another.
NFL Jets Predictions & Handicapping Insight

- New York Jets AFC Championship Odds: +5000
- New York Jets 2022 Super Bowl Odds: +10000
With a new direction and a new QB they are hoping to get back to relevance in the NFL.
Key Additions:
RB Tevin Coleman
WR Corey Davis
DE Carl Lawson
The coach is very familiar with Coleman from their time together in San Francisco. It looks like this will be first opportunity for him to be the lead back which might make him a fantasy sleeper.
A former first round pick, Corey Davis never quite lived up to expectation in Tennessee. He is still young though and coming off his best season for the Titans. He will be the top threat for the new rookie QB.
Lawson had 8.5 sacks as a rookies with the Bengals. In the three seaons since he has not been able to match that production. The Jets might be able to unlock him.
Key Losses:
QB Sam Darnold
OLB Terrell Basham
OG Pat Elflein
Sam Darnold has not been very good for the Jets since they drafted him. The team has been a mess around him too so it is hard to know just what % to assign to him for his failure. Some but probably not all.
Basham is far from elite but he had 3.5 sacks last season, that was second on the team .That production should be replaceable.
The Jets used their second first round pick on Alijah Vera-Tucker. He is expect to replace Elflein and start from day one..and be an upgrade.
2021 New York Jets Predictions: Offseason Analysis
New coach and new quarterback, those were the big moves of the offseason. Zach Wilson had a lot of success at BYU but you always have to wonder when a player improves his status as much as he did last year. Maybe he is a future All-Pro but the chances of him playing like that from the jump are unlikely. The job is all his and with the addition of Davis he has better weapons to throw to than Darnold did. As much as anyting getting rid of Darnold got rid of the negativity that surrounded him.
While the Jets offense was one of the worst the defense was just below average. Saleh gets a lot of credit for the SF defense but don’t forget that group was loaded with top draft picks. That is not the case in New York, even this season their top three picks were all on the offensive side of the ball. Quinnen Williams looks like a stud to build around and they have brought in some pass rushers like Lawson and Vinny Curry to beef up the defensive line. If they can get that group to be disruptive than the rest of the defense benefits. That was the formula in SF and New York will be looking to do it on the fly.
2021 New York Jets Win Total Prediction:
This number is one of the most curious on the board. At 6 it would be three times what they won a year aga and a number they have exceeded just once since 2015.
A rookie coach and a rookie quarterback has rarely been a formula for immediate improvement so I am really curious what is driving this number.
Starting with games in the division, the odds are they are going to be underdogs in every single one of them, even at home. Fans at MetLife Stadium are not going to help too much.
I am not seeing many, if any gimmes this season. New York does get to host Cincinnati and Jacksonville but the former is on Halloween and the latter is the day after Christmas. Both of those teams could be improved at that point (yes the Jets could be too). If they are going to get an over they better win some games early as their last two games of the year are home to Tampa and at Buffalo. Those are true Super Bowl contenders. Maybe they are resting guys but if they are focused those are hard to see as wins.
While I am not high on Miami or New England those teams are still much better than New York right now. Maybe Wilson hits and their future looks promising but I am not seeing how this team gets to even four wins let alone six this season, even with the extra game on the schedule. You gotta love the NFL for their scheduling. New York will get to see Sam Darnold up close in their opener against Carolina.
