Dolphins 2021 Season Preview
Looking for 2021 Miami Dolphins Predictions? Miami won 10 games last season, their first winning season under coach Brian Flores. While that is a step in the right direction Miami does not look like a team poised for a leap. Their defense was good last season but the offense has a lot of question marks, mainly centered on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and what his true potential is.
I know I am not sold. This team should not backslide but at the same time an extra game on the schedule is not going to push the Dolphins into the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Not a ton was done to upgrade the team either.
NFL Dolphins Predictions & Handicapping Insight
2021/22 NFL Team Predictions – Miami Dolphins
- Dolphins 2021 Win Total NFL Odds: 9 (Over -135/Under +115)
- Miami Dolphins AFC East Odds: +32
- Miami Dolphins AFC Championship Odds: +1500
- Miami Dolphins 2022 Super Bowl Odds: +2800
Key Additions:
- OT DJ Fluker
- WR Will Fuller V
- C Matt Skura
Miami wanted to get gett on the offensive line this offseason. DJ Fluker is penciled in as a starter at right tackle and should help.
They also brought it center Matto Skura from Baltimore. Yes, that is two former Ravens on the offensive line. People usually focus on the tackles but Skura might be the more important pickup with the quarterback still learning how to play the position in the NFL.
Will Fuller V has all the athletic talent in the world but never quite popped with Houston. Maybe get gets unlocked in Miami where the expectations are not as great.
Key Losses:
- QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
- OL Ereck Flowers
- LB Shaq Lawson
After Aaron Rodgers the most talked about quarterback in the league is Tua Tagovailoa. That is in part because the security blanket of Ryan Fitzpatrick is no longer.
Miami brought in new linemen looking to upgrade in the trenches. They thing that they have done so by letting Flowers go.
Lawson posted four sacks in his lone season with Miami. That is a very replaceable total.
2021 Miami Dolphins Predictions: Offseason Analysis
Miami is all in on Tua, they have to be after making him their top pick a year ago and then naming him the starter midway through the season even though “Fitzmagic” outplayed him. The knock against Tua is that he can’t press the ball down the field, or won’t.
He just doesn’t take enough chances and that limits what the Dolphins can be on offense. Bringing in Fuller and this year’s top pick Jaylen Waddle increases the speed and shiftiness of the offense but it won’t matter if Tua is not more than what we saw a year ago.
The defense was 5th in scoring last season, giving up just 21ppg.
The yardage marks were much higher so you have to wonder how repeatable that is. Miami had 18 interceptions a year ago which led the NFL. 10 of those were from corner Xavien Howard.
Expecting him to repeat that level of production is tough. Those helped the Dolphins be +9 on turnovers, the third best in the NFL. I worry that that defense plays about the same as a year ago and a decrease in turnovers makes them look pretty average.
The offense is unlikely to be good enough to carry a team like that.
2021 Miami Dolphins Win Total Prediction:
Miami started 0-2 last season, losing at New England and at home to Buffalo. They start the season the same way this season and Iam not sr their prospects are any better with Buffalo being awesome and the Patriots expected to be improved.
Then the Dolphins are at Las Vegas, home to Indy and at Tampa Bay. That is a tough opening stretch of five games and I would be surprised if they won two of them.
After that it eases up some with gimmes against Jacksonville, Atlanta and Houston over the next four weeks. If they don’t get all of those ones they won’t even finish .500 let alone be a threat for the playoffs.
I don’t like their schedule one bit.
The Dolphins should be better than the Jets but both of their games against their division rival are in the latter half of the season where that team should be better and two of their last three are on the road at New Orleans and Tennessee I don’t see where the wins are coming from and if Tua is struggling and losing instead of struggling and winning like he did last year they have nowhere to turn.
