Chicago NFL Handicapping Insight
2017 Chicago Bears Win Total Odds: Over 5.5 (+110)
It seems like a make or break year for John Fox and the Chicago Bears.
The Bears are going to need to show some improvement this year if he wants to keep his job. Since he took over the coaching job the Bears haven’t had much success.
Now success for this team isn’t going to be ten wins. Success for this team will probably be six or seven wins and some development out of their quarterback.
The biggest question facing the Bears coming into this season is who will be their starting quarterback when they take the field in week one.
Bears Win Total Odds: Key Additions
At the beginning of the off season the Bears made a big splash signing Mike Glennon from the Bucaneers. He looked like a guy that could at least start for a couple of years until the Bears had found their quarterback of the future.
But no one expected the Bears to draft that guy this early in the draft this year. On draft night they traded up to number two to get Mitch Trubisky.
Outside of the quarterback position they also signed Prince Amukamara, Markus Wheaton, and Quintin Demps.
Bears Win Total Odds: Key Departures
Two cornerstones of the Bears Franchise are gone in Alshon Jeffrey and Jay Cutler.
Although both are big names and were important parts of the franchise the Bears won’t probably miss them too much.
From the sounds of it Cutler wasn’t the greatest leader in the locker room and Jeffrey has dealt with a lot of injures the last year. With those two guys it’s clear the Bears are moving a younger direction, and there will be some no faces of the franchise.
Bears Win Total Odds: Season Preview
The biggest question facing the Bears coming into this season is starting quarterback. My guess is they start the season with Mike Glennon as he will have had his nose in the playbook a little longer and let Trubisky get his feet wet in the NFL.
But by mid season if the Bears are struggling (which they will be) I am guessing we will see the Bears hand over the keys to the car to the rookie.
One of the biggest strengths on this team is at the running back position. Jordan Howard showed in his rookie season why he is the now at that position. If he can grow in his second year he will probably have some more awards coming his way.
The other big strength of this team was the offensive line. If the Bears decide to go with Trubisky to start he should have plenty of time in the pocket, which will be great for helping him develop into an NFL starting quarterback.
2017 Bears Win Total Odds: Under 5.5 (-140)
This might be one of the safest bets of any NFL team even with the payout being -140.
It doesn’t matter who is the starting quarterback for this team, the weapons just aren’t there around them yet to make them a contender.
The schedule also doesn’t do them any favors. If this team started out 0-7 it wouldn’t be a surprise to many. Their schedule to start the year is brutal.
The biggest thing that can happen this year has to do with the quarterback developing, no matter which one they decide to go with.
