2016-2017 Dolphins Preview & NFL Future Lines
Looking for 2016 Miami Dolphins Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Miami Dolphins won free agency last offseason, but then they didn’t win much else, as their big-ticket moves didn’t translate to on-field success. That cost head coach Joe Philbin his job, and while interim boss Dan Carpenter did an admirable job down the stretch, the team went in a different direction, bringing in highly sought after assistant Adam Gase.

The Dolphins, who were a trendy pick to win the AFC East a year ago, are now projected to be the division’s bottom dwellers.
But there remains plenty of talent on the roster, and Gase is saying all the right things, so there could be some post-hype sleeper appeal to this year’s Dolphins squad.
2016 Dolphins Roster Changes
The Dolphins made a big splash last season when they brought in Ndamukong Suh on a $100-plus million deal. They made another big addition along the defensive line this offseason by bringing in Mario Williams to pair him with Cameron Wake in hopes of getting to opposing quarterbacks a little quicker. His addition made Olivier Vernon expendable.
Brent Grimes left town as well, but Byron Maxwell and rookie Xavien Howard give the team some depth at the position. First-round pick Laremy Tunsil will be great value if he can straighten his life out.
The loss of Lamar Miller was long overdue. For all his talent, the team just never showed any interest in utilizing him to his full potential. The team got younger at wideout with the departure of Rishard Matthews and Greg Jennings.
The team made another late splash in free agency by bringing in Arian Foster. All indications are that he’s healthy, but an Achilles injury typically comes as a death knell to running backs.
2016 Miami Dolphins Predictions: Offense
With Miller gone, the keys to the offense are in Ryan Tannehill’s hands more than ever. He dropped off some last season after progressing positively each season of his career to that point. He lost some depth at wide receiver, but DeVante Parker and Jarvis Landry have the talent to form one of the better one-two receiving combos in football, and Foster is a good option out of the backfield.
Jay Ajayi will have a lot on his shoulders as he could spend significant time as the bellcow in the offense. Foster will cut into his touches, but he still projects to see volume in the high teens on a weekly basis.
The addition of Tunsil will be the key in how the Dolphins’ offensive line will fair this season. The group had a forgettable 2015, and new additions Jermon Bushrod and Kraig Urbik aren’t the kind of difference makers many would have liked the team to add during the offseason.
2016 Miami Dolphins Predictions: Defense
On paper, the Dolphins’ front seven should be a strength, but Wake is coming off an Achilles tear, Williams is 31 and coming off the worst season of his career, and Suh had a lot of trouble making the move to Miami a year ago. New addition Alonso had a brilliant rookie year but hasn’t shown much since – largely because he’s had difficulty staying on the field.
Reshad Jones is the best in an improved secondary, but there are still a lot of question marks back there. Second round pick Howard may not be ready to contribute from the get-go, but he does project as a difference-maker in a few years.
2016 Miami Dolphins Analysis:
The Dolphins have some post-hype shine to them. They made some minor splashes in the free agent market, but after their 2015 season, they’re the test case for those that doubt teams can build a championship-caliber roster through free agency.
They’ll have a tough time replicating last year’s seven wins, and project to be a bottom-five team in the AFC.
