Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
Western Kentucky was the favorite in Conference USA but that’s all in the past now ever since Charles Bassey went out for the season with a leg injury.

Bassey could have come out after his freshman year a season ago and been a first round selection to the NBA. He stayed to play another season at WKU and now his future is cloudy after suffering a tibial plateau fracture in the second half of Western Kentucky’s win over Arkansas a month ago now.
WKU lost two in a row following the loss of its best player, who led the roster in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, but bounced back with a pair of conference wins.
The Hilltoppers dropped their first C-USA game at UAB this week, however, and now they have to go back on the road just two days later.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
It is against the worst team in the conference, at least according to Sports-Reference’s Simple Rating System (SRS), which has Middle Tennessee about eleven points below average in Division I.
After sixteen years as the head coach at Middle Tennessee, Kermit Davis turned his success into a SEC job with Mississippi and the Raiders had to start over.
A lot of Davis’ guys were still with the team last season in Nick McDevitt’s first year on the job and he finished 8–10 in the conference.
McDevitt was a lifer at North Carolina-Asheville, where he played from 1997 to 2001 before joining the coaching staff upon graduation.
He worked his way up to head coach and took the Bulldogs to an NCAA Tournament, the CIT and the NIT before climbing the ranks to C-USA.
His second season hasn’t gone even as well as the first (in which he only won eleven games, despite going 8–10 in the conference). MTSU has just four wins in sixteen games and only one came against a Division I opponent (Lipscomb). The Raiders haven’t won since Dec. 3 and that was against Columbia International.
