Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake Forest is enjoying a successful season, and they’ve been one of the most consistent teams in the nation. The Demon Deacons have won seven of their last nine games, and they come into this one as real threats to pull off the upset.
Steve Forbes team has been very efficient this season, scoring 78.6 points per game, while shooting an impressive 49.1% from the field.
The transfer portal was really good to the Demon Deacons last summer. Alondes Williams has come over from Oklahoma and thrived big time. The 6’5 guard scored 25 points in the home loss to Duke in Jan, and he’s also coming off of a 25-point performance against Miami.
He’s one of the ACC’s leading scorers at 19.8 points per game, and he leads Wake in rebounding (6.9) and assists (5.2).
Jake LaRavia also brought his versatile skill-set to Winston-Salem over the summer. The Indiana State transfer scored a career-high 31 points in the blowout win over UNC, and he’s posting strong averages of 14.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg, and 3.8 apg, ranking second on the team in all three categories.
Daivien Williamson joins Williams in the backcourt. The 6’1 guard scored a career-best 27 points and hit five threes in the road loss to Syracuse, and he’s scoring 12.8 ppg.
Dallas Walton and Isaiah Mucius (9.8 ppg, 3.5rpg) start up front for the Demon Deacons. Mucius (9.8 ppg, 3.5rpg) brings over 100 games of experience to the lineup, while Walton, 7′ center, has come over from Colorado and given Wake an anchor in the middle.
Duke Blue Devils
Duke has the look of a national champion this season. After storming out to a 10-1 start that included wins over Gonzaga and Kentucky, the Blue Devils have asserted themselves in ACC play, sitting atop the conference with a 11-3 record.
This is one of Coach K’s best offensive teams ever. The Blue Devils score 79.9 points per game and shoot an efficient 48.5% from the field, good for 19th and 15th in the nation respectively.
Paolo Banchero leads the charge, and the super freshman has lived up to the hype thus far. The 6’10 forward has double-doubled in three of the last five games, and he posted a line of 21 and 9 in the road win over Notre Dame last time out.
Banchero leads the team in scoring (17.1) and rebounding (8.7).
Wendell Moore Jr. has grown so much as a player over the past three years. The versatile forward scores 14.2 ppg, grabs 5.5 rpg, and dishes out a team-leading 4.5 apg.
Trevor Keels pending return should be huge for this one. The 6’4 freshman was posting averages of 11.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, and 3.2 apg.
Mark Williams and A.J. Griffin compliment Banchero in the frontcourt, with the former having 8 double-doubled on the season.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Duke is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against Wake.
- Over is 8-5 in Duke’s last 13 games.
- Wake is 5-2 in last 7 games vs. a team with a record above .500.
Free Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Duke Blue Devils NCAAB Prediction: Duke to Cover
This is a lot of points to spot a veteran 20-win team, I can’t look past that here.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Wake +10.5 (-110)
It’s bitten me a few times betting against my favorite team, I’m just unsure if they cover the massive margin here. Duke isn’t matchup proof, as the loss to UVA showed, and Wake has the size, experience, and versatility to make them uncomfortable even at Cameron Indoor. We could be in for a close, contested finish so I’ll put some trust in the Demon Deacons tonight.
Spot Wake Forest the points for this ACC battle.
