Virginia Tech Hokies
Virginia Tech jumped out to an expected 5-0 start, and managed to walk away from non-conference wins over Maryland and St. Bonaventure, but they’ve dropped their first two ACC contests.
Keve Aluma returned after a strong first season in Blacksburg. The Wofford transfer has three double-doubles on the season, including a 25/10 line in Cameron Indoor Stadium against Duke. The 6’9 senior leads the team with 15.2 ppg, while grabbing 6.4 rpg.
Hunter Cattoor is a sniper whose been given more free reign this season. The 6’4 guard scored a season-high 21 points in the win over St. Bonaventure, going 5-5 from deep. Cattoor is second on the team in scoring (10.1), while leading the ACC in three-point shooting at 44.6%.
Justyn Mutts joins Aluma in the frontcourt. The 6’7 forward scored 20 points in the loss to Duke, and he leads the team in rebounding (7.5), while scoring 9.9 ppg.
Nahiem Alleyne start his third season strong, but he’s been in a funk over his past four games. He’s scoring 10.0 ppg, but Tech will need more from him soon.
Storm Murphy, Aluma’s former teammate at Wofford, has brought a punch to the lineup. The 6′ guard scores 8.6 ppg and he’s hit multiple threes in each of the past four games.
Virginia Cavaliers
UVA opened conference play with a loss, but they’ve responded with tough road wins over Syracuse and Clemson. The Wahoos are currently 6-2 as hosts this season.
Tony Bennett’s team is annually among the most stingiest in the country, and that’s no different this year, as the Cavs only allow 57.5 ppg.
The Cavs have been powered by transfer portal signees Jayden Gardner and Armaan Franklin. Gardner has transferred in from ECU and has asserted himself as a force down low, leading the team with 15.1 ppg and 7.6 rpg.
Franklin, an Indiana transfer, paced the team with 23 points on 8-16 shooting against Georgia and he’s second on the team in scoring (12.1). He’s joined by veteran point guard Kihei Clark, who’s averaging 9.9 ppg and 4.1 apg.
Sophomores Reece Beekman and Kadin Shedrick join them in the starting lineup, with the former leading the team in assists (4.4).

Free Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Virginia Cavaliers NCAAB Prediction: UVA to Cover
Virginia will continue to be one of those teams you don’t want to bet against at home due to their proven ability to win games defensively.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: UVA -3.5
UVA proved a few things during their three-game road trip to open ACC play. One huge thing was that this team can beat the stigma and score points. We already knew they could defend but this team is starting to gel and figure things out offensively. Tech’s frontcourt may have tough time on the road here, in what should be a Saturday night like atmosphere. Look for UVA to get a little revenge for what occured on the gridiron six weeks ago and pick up the win here.
Take Virginia’s spread here, and always monitor the under for a UVA game.
