Virginia Tech Hokies
Virginia specializes at holding opponents under fifty points. It held Virginia Tech under forty in a 65–39 win, Saturday in Charlottesville.

Landers Nolley, Tech’s leading scorer, hit for about his average of eighteen points but that was it for the Hokies. Only five other guys scored at all and just one of the five had more than four points. Tech shot twenty-seven percent, including four-of-twenty-five from three-point range.
Since the Hokies won at Clemson in the first game of the season, they lost at home against Duke and at UVA.
Syracuse will be its most beatable conference opponent since that Clemson game but it will enjoy the home court advantage.
Syracuse Orange
The Orange has been far from unbeatable at home this season, though.
It lost twice in Brooklyn. The Barclays Center isn’t the Carrier Dome; nor is it Madison Square Garden but New York City has long been Syracuse’s second home.
It has already lost three times in its first home, the Carrier Dome; first to Virginia on opening night, then by fourteen to Iowa and most recently to Notre Dame.
The ‘Cuse has a resounding road win in conference play over Georgia Tech but that is the only ACC victory thus far.
In ways other than the unusually unstable home court, Syracuse is a different team this season than in years past. It is led by three-point shooters.
Elijah Hughes, Buddy Boeheim and Joseph Girard, the three leading scorers that average over forty-six points per game as a trio, average 23.5 three-point attempts per game.
Hughes and Boeheim both shoot over forty percent and Girard converts an acceptable rate just under thirty-four percent.
Hughes is the junior leader at nearly twenty points per game on terrific shooting splits. He transferred from East Carolina three years ago and had to sit a season before debuting for Syracuse last season.
In addition to the scoring, Hughes has bumped his assist numbers up from 1.5 per game last season to 4.7 this year.
