A couple of Power Conference teams hooking up in this one. Both might have been a little nervous with all the big stealing happening over the weekend.
Virginia Tech had a nice season but they might have had their COVID pause at the worst possible time.
The Gators did not close greatly either. They lost their final two regular season games and bowed out of the SEC Tounament against Tennessee in the quarterfinals.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies had a big win over Virginia on January 30th. Since then they are just 2-3, including a loss to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament. It is really hard to know what you are going to get from them this week.
Keve Aluma did not have a good game in the loss to the Tar Heels. He is their leading scorer and one of the most consistent players in the league. He is not a star though.
Virginia Tech is capable of beating almost any team in the Tournament but the way they have looked over the past month and with that layoff seemingly still lingering they don’t look good right now.
Florida Gators
Florida has not had the smoothest season either. It is hard to lose your best player mid-way through the year and still have success. They have figured out how to win a little differently.
Trey Mann has really emerged this season. He finished the season averaging 15ppg but upped that to 26ppg in a couple of SEC Tournament games. They need him to be at that level to have success this week.
