The Villanova Wildcats will travel north and take on the Providence Friars this for some Big East Basketball Monday night. This will be the first meeting between the conference’s two best teams this season.
Villanova may open as slight favorites here on the road.
Villanova Wildcats
Villanova has been dominant since the start of Big East play, winning 12 of their last 14 games. The WIldcats defeated Seton Hall at home last time out behind a big second half from Jay Wright’s veteran team.
The Wildcats possess two of the most experienced players in the country in Collin Gillespie and Jermaine Samuels. Both were rotational pieces during Nova’s title runs, but this will mark their first meeting against Syracuse.
Gillespie leads the team with 16.2 ppg and 2.9 apg, while Samuels scores 10.2 ppg and grabs a team-leading 6.5 rpg.
Justin Moore continues to improve in his third year starting. The 6’4 guard reminds fans of former Nova guard Josh Hart, displaying the ability to shoot, rebound, distribute and defend at a high rate. Moore averages a well-rounded line of 15.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, and 2.4 apg.
Caleb Swider’s transfer has led to a bigger role for Brandon Slater. The 6’7 senior is averaging a career-best 9.2 ppg, up six points from last season.
Eric Dixon has come on strong since the start of Big East play. The 6’8 sophomore scored a career-high 24 points in the win over UConn, and he’s scoring 10.1 ppg, and leading the team in rebounding (6.7).
Providence Friars
Providence jumped out to a dominant 13-1 start that included wins over Wisconsin and Texas Tech, before being flat lined by Marquette on the road. The Friars got back to their winning ways, and they coming into this one winners of eight straight.
Ed Cooley’s team has won with their annual physical approach, scoring just over 70 ppg, but only allowing 63.2 ppg.
Nate Watson is the leader and the soul of this Providence team. The fifth senior has been around for awhile, polishing his game and gaining experience a long the way. He was a big factor in the bounce back victory over St. John’s, posting a 22/11 line.
Watson leads the team in scoring (13.6), while grabbing 5.7 rpg.
Jared Bynum has stepped up big time this season. The 5’10 junior reminds Friars fans of a former flashy point guard, and he scored a career-high 32 points in their road win over Georgetown. Bynum is third on the team in scoring (10.9), while leading Providence in assists (4.1).
Al Durham’s arrival from Indiana has been huge. The 6’4 guard has come in and been a reliable option offensively, and he scored a season-high 22 points in the road win over Xavier. Durham is scoring 13.3 ppg and dishing 3.2 apg. .
Noah Horchler and Justin Minaya surround Watson up front, with the former leading the team in rebounding (8.5).
CBB Betting Trends:
- Providence is 12-3 ATS in their last 15 home Big East games.
- Villanova is 10-5 ATS in their last 15 road Big East games.
- Under is 4-1 in the Friars last 5 home games.

4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Providence ML
I’d love to see Providence open as underdogs here because this is the toss-up of the nite. Ed Cooley’s team is 14-0 at home, and they’re the only team in the Big East with the size and guard play to match up with Villanova confidently. They’ve got the momentum, so look for them to play big on their home floor here.
Take Providence’s ML for this Big East heavyweight battle.
