The VCU Rams will travel to New York to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies this Friday night. The Rams lead the all-time series 7-4, but both schools have traded the past four games.
St. Bonaventure’s is favored to win by three at home here.
VCU remains as competitive as ever, and they came away from non-conference play with win over Syracuse and Vanderbilt. The Rams also played Baylor and UConn very close, and they’ve jumped out to a 3-0 start in Atlantic 10 play.
VCU has one of fiercest defenses in the nation, and they only allow 57.1 points per game, which is good for 4th in the country.
Mike Rhoades team goes about ten deep, and Vince Williams Jr. is their senior leader. The 6’6 forward double-doubled in the road win over Dayton, and he posted a solid 11/5/8 line against George Washington.
Williams Jr. leads the team in scoring (11.3) and rebounding (6.1), while dishing out 3.2 apg. He’s also blocked multiple shots in five of his last seven games.
VCU throws a trio of defensive guards at opposing defenses led Adrian Baldwin Jr. The 6’1 sophomore returned to action in their win over Jacksonville State, and he’s contributed everywhere. Baldwin Jr. scored a season high 16 points in the win over GWU, and he’s averaging 10.8 ppg, while leading the team in assists (5.2) and steals (2.7)
Freshmen Jayden Nunn scored 21 points in the loss to UConn, and he’s third on the team in scoring (9.8). Senior Keshawn Curry brings over 75 games of experience to the lineup and leads the backcourt in minutes, while scoring 8.7 ppg.
Levi Stockard III and Hason Ward line up with Williams in the frontcourt, with the latter second on the team in rebounding (4.8) and first in blocks (1.8).
St. Bonaventure Bonnies
St. Bonaventure jumped out to a 8-3 start during non-conference play, picking up victories over Marquette, Boise State and Clemson along the way. They returned to action after missing nearly a month of action, defeated La Salle in overtime, 80-76.
Osun Osunniyi anchors a veteran, senior filled starting unit, that has played together for more than three seasons. The 6’10 big is coming off of his best game of the season, playing 43 minutes, scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 boards against the Explorers. Osunniyi is up to 10.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg on the season.
Jaren Holmes, Kyle Lofton, and Dominick Welch are names we will all be hearing when March rolls around. There aren’t many teams in the country that can match the production St. Bonaventure’s gets from their backcourt.
Holmes might just be one of the best players in the country. The 6’5 senior is extremely versatile, and has the ability to score from all three levels. He double-doubled in wins over Marquette and Boise State, and he posts strong lines of 15.9 ppg, 6.5 rpg, and 4.4 apg.
Lofton has a string on the offense, leading the team in assists (5.8). The 6’3 guard can also fill it up, as he scores 15.9 ppg, tying the team lead.
Welch is the true definition 3-and-D, as over 70% of his shots have been threes. The 6’5 guard has hit four or more three in each of the past four games, and averaging 11.7 ppg and 5.6 rpg.
Jalen Adaway has elevated his game since coming over from Miami-Ohio. The 6’5 guard double-doubled against UConn, and he’s leading SBU in rebounding at 7.5 rpg, while scoring 13.5 ppg.

Free VCU Rams vs. St. Bonaventure Bonnies NCAAB Prediction: St. Bonaventure to Cover
Avoiding a VCU under is tough, but the Bonnies are in a really nice spot at home here.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: St. Bonaventure -2.5
St. Bonaventure’s can play VCU’s game tonight, but the Rams can not return the favor. The Bonnies come into this game with the key advantages of size and home floor, while also possessing one of the best starting fives in the country. It’s unlikely VCU comes in and silences them offensively, and at this manageable margin, we really like the Bonnies here.
Take St. Bonaventure’s spread for this A10 battle, and always, always take the under on VCU basketball games.
