The Rebels and Cowboys square off on Thursday afternoon in Vegas and the oddsmakers apparently want the public to decide which team will win this affair. This is a pick ’em game so all we need to do is pick a winner and the funds will be in our account. Now, don’t go picking your fucking nose and calling that the winner you picked, because that’s gross, man, come on!
With the game being in Vegas, that would assumingly give the Runnin’ Rebels a little advantage having the crowd and some familiarity with the venue. Considering this is their home court you are correct! Adding to that, the Rebels already know what it feels like to beat Wyoming on this floor since we just saw them do it about a week ago. The Rebels snared a 64 – 57 win in the only meeting between the two programs in the regular season.
Wyoming has only lost 7 games the entire season while amassing a 13 – 5 record in conference play and I will just admit now that I am leaning to the Cowboys to exact some revenge for the loss to the Rebels on this floor.
UNLV Rebels
The Rebels have earned 3 MWC tourney titles since the first event that was played in 2000. In fact, the Rebels took the first-ever conference tournament title in that year while playing in 4 of the first 5 final games. The last time the Rebels won the conference tourney came back in 2008 when UNLV won back-to-back trophies after taking the 2007 event. In addition, the Thomas & Mack Center has hosted this event since that 2007 season where this program has called home since 1983.
In the win over Wyoming back on March 2, Victor Iwuakor started and only scored 4 points and he is questionable to play tonight. Yeah, no one cares, LoL.
Listen, there is this dude, right? He wears #13 and for him, there is nothing bad luck related for us to speak about. Bryce Hamilton scored 15 points in 36 minutes in the first meeting with Wyoming and all he is doing is averaging 21.8 PPG. The senior guard from Pasadena is 7th in the land with that scoring average and only once this entire season was he held under double-digits. Can we count that game against WHI? Who the hell put that game on the Rebels schedule anyway?
In the final game of the regular season against New Mexico, Hamilton landed 28 points but didn’t involve his teammates at all dishing out no assists in the loss. I am still shocked that UNLV beat Wyoming and then got their ass kicked by a shit New Mexico squad to finish the regular season.
The Rebels rank 258th in the nation only converting 42.7% of their shots from the floor this season. The defensive side of the floor is a different story because this Rebels squad ranks 56th holding their opponents to a 41.1 FG percentage.
The Rebels are 27 – 17 overall in the MWC tourney and they have certainly found a way to take advantage of having home court for the event.
Wyoming Cowboys
Ahh, the sweet smell of revenge is in the air and Wyoming has my attention in this spot. Sure, the 14 – 1 at home will have no influence on this game but the Cowboys were 10 – 6 away from Laramie this season. With an 8 – 5 true road record and a 2 – 1 record in neutral-site games, the Cowboys traveled better than plenty of squads around the landscape of college hoops.
The Cowboys are 14 – 20 from their 34 games played in MWC tourney history and they have earned one title along the way that came in 2015.
The Cowboys’ defense is also stellar as they hold opponents to a 30.9% clip from behind the arc which ranks them 52nd in the nation guarding the 3-ball. Also, Wyoming ranks 75th holding foes to 65.7% shooting from the floor.
The Cowboys did lose 4 of their last 7 games which includes an ugly loss to New Mexico themselves. How the hell did both of these programs lose to lowly New Mexico down the stretch? I know, right?!
While the Rebels get constant big games from Hamilton, Wyoming has a pair of players who can come up with big performances. However, one of those players is questionable tonight because Hunter Maldonado might be absent from the lineup.
Maldonado is averaging 18.7 PPG just behind leading scorer Graham Ike who brings in just under 20 PPG himself. Should Maldonado be a no-go, that will obviously test the depth of this roster which is not something Jeff Linder wants to see. Linder doesn’t get too deep into that bench and Maldonado really needs to be on this floor tonight.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Cowboys are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games.
- Cowboys are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games.
- Rebels are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games.
- Under is 5-1 in Rebels last 6 overall.
- Under is 7-2 in Rebels last 9 Thursday games.
Free UNLV Rebels vs. Wyoming Cowboys NCAAB Betting Prediction:
Here it is so pay attention! If Maldonado doesn’t go? WE HAVE UNLV ML!
If Maldonado is in the Wyoming lineup for this game, we have the Cowboys ML!
It’s that much of a difference for me so I will watch the pregame and see if Maldanado is dressed tonight. Play it accordingly! I will put Wyoming ML as the play below but you know the deal!
By the same token, I love this under a little more because of these two defenses so let’s not stress on who wins when we can cash a ticket on the total
