One of the top rivalries in all of college sports reignites Wednesday when the 12th ranked Texas Longhorns travel to Oklahoma to take on the ninth ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
Texas is coming off a 70-55 win at home Saturday against TCU. The Longhorns have won two consecutive games and are 7-4 in conference play.
Oklahoma is fresh off one of the best games of the entire college basketball season. The Sooners took down West Virginia in double overtime in Morgantown Saturday.
Texas Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns had sky-high expectations coming into the season having returned all their minutes from last year. So far the Horns have been one of college basketball’s better teams and have been very balanced.
Despite shooting just 6 of 21 Saturday from deep, Texas dominated inside and shot 22 of 36 from two. Texas will be faced with a much tougher test Wednesday against Oklahoma. Texas has lost each of its last four games against Quad-1 opponents.
Seniors have led the way for the Longhorns. Andrew Jones, Matt Coleman II and Jericho Sims have accounted for just under half the team’s points this year. Jones is shooting 32 percent from downtown but has struggled of late, going 10 for 40 over his last five games.
The Longhorns are in the top-25 in the country in both offensive and defensive efficiency. The Longhorns average 75.6 points per game and allow 67.6 points per game. Andrew Jones leads the team with 15.9 PPG while Coleman II, Greg Brown and Courtney Ramey also average double figures in points.
Oklahoma Sooners
An argument can be made that Oklahoma is the hottest team in college basketball right now, and their recent rise into the AP top-10 reflects that. The Sooners have won six consecutive home games and seven of their last eight games overall. During that stretch, the Sooners have five quad-1 victories.
Like most Lon Kruger led teams, Oklahoma does not waste many possessions. They currently have the 11th lowest turnover rate in college basketball, turning the ball over just 15.3 percent of the time.
The Sooners are 34th in the nation in offensive efficiency and 21st in defensive rating. The Sooners average 76.4 points a game while allowing 68.3 points a night.
The Sooners do a good job of not fouling, allowing the seventh lowest free throw rate in the country. This bodes well against a Texas team that attacks often and likes to get to the foul line.
Oklahoma is led by transfer guard Austin Reaves who averages 16.6 PPG. Sophomore DeVion Harmon averages 12.9 PPG.

Free Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners NCAAB Prediction:
The last time these teams met, it was a one-point Oklahoma victory in Austin. This time, I’m sticking with Oklahoma to get it done again at home. On paper this is a very even matchup, but Oklahoma is red hot and its hard to go against them right now.
The Sooners do an excellent job of preventing easy baskets and taking care of the ball, which I feel ultimately makes the difference in this matchup. Regardless of outcome, this game will be a lot of fun to watch.
