Well, it is safe to say that the Vols need to rebound in a big way after their performance last time out against Kentucky. The Wildcats handed the Vols a thumping of epic proportions coming away with a 107 – 79 win leaving Tennessee to pick up the pieces.
The Vols are 2 – 3 in SEC play having alternated losses and wins since the beginning of conference action that started with the loss to Alabama.
The Commodores also know what it is like to lose to the Wildcats in SEC play, but Vandy has gotten to a 2 – 2 record in the conference after the win over Georgia this past weekend, 73 – 66.
Tennessee Volunteers
The Vols are looking for their confidence again after Kentucky pretty much ripped it all away on Saturday. It’s one thing to lose and it is another to lose by nearly 30 points when every game means so much in conference play.
Making matters a little more difficult, the LSU Tigers are coming to Knoxville this weekend to take on the Vols, and Tennessee will likely be home dogs for that contest next Saturday.
The line setters seem to like their chances today, however, as we see Tennessee listed as nearly touchdown favs on the road this Tuesday night in Nashville. The top-25 ranking will certainly disappear should the Vols fall again after that effort against the Cats.
Vols leading scorer Santiago Vescovi came away with 20 points in the loss but that effort only increased his average on the season to 14 PPG now. Vescovi has only been held under double-digits in 3 games this year and he has certainly taken on the leadership role on the floor in his junior campaign. The Uruguayan native has greatly improved on his numbers from a year ago and I strongly suggest not to just leave him alone behind the arc.
We could do a whole synopsis of what to expect from Vescovi because the dude is just pure from anywhere on the floor. The rest of the team? Well, the Vols rank 225th from behind the arc shooting 33% from distance this season.
Vanderbilt Commodores
When Vandy fell to Kentucky it left the Commodores at 1 – 2 in SEC play before the game with Georgia last weekend. The Commodores rebounded with a 73 – 66 win on the road and they’ll get back on the bus for two more after this affair in Nashville.
Make no mistake, this is an in-state rival game with two teams that want to kick each other’s ass and leave a mark when they do it! Should Vandy provide a home upset of the Vols, the Commodores know that it will knock them out of the top-25 and that is enticing enough.
Being a home dog also gets a team fired up but this team is only 5 – 5 with 10 home games in Nashville this year. They have not used the home court to their advantage enough this season and this is certainly the biggest home game of 2022 thus far.
The win over Georgia was big because it finally snapped a run of 8 years without taking out the Dogs on the road. Isn’t amazing that we get to see Jordan and Pippen working together again?
Jordan Wright and Scottie Pippin Jr combined for 33 points while Wright tore down 12 huge boards to seal the win over Georgia. The boards were big for a team that has had issues around the glass all season long. This is not a strong rebounding outfit that shows in the rankings.
Vandy ranks 169th in offensive rebounding and 192nd on the defensive glass as Wright and Millora-Brown basically do all the work down low for this team.
CBB Betting Trends:

We are going towards that total and bounding right over it! Who thinks that a 134.5 is intimidating after watching Kentucky destroy this team to no end? Plus, a game in the 70s with Vandy? Okay, yes, yes I do think we will get over this number.
