The St. Bonaventure’s Bonnies will travel to Fairfax and take on the George Mason Patriots for an Atlantic 10 matchup this Monday night.
SBU is be favored to win by three on the road here.
St. Bonaventure Bonnies
St. Bonaventure jumped out to a 8-3 start during non-conference play, picking up victories over Marquette, Boise State and Clemson along the way. The Bonnies have start A-10 play 3-1, and enter this one on the heels of a road win over Duquense.
Osun Osunniyi anchors a veteran, senior filled starting unit, that has played together for more than three seasons. The 6’10 big had his best game of the season against La Salle, playing 43 minutes, scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 boards. Osunniyi is up to 10.9 ppg and 7.7 rpg on the season.
Jaren Holmes, Kyle Lofton, and Dominick Welch are names we will all be hearing when March rolls around. There aren’t many teams in the country that can match the production St. Bonaventure’s gets from their backcourt.
Holmes might just be one of the best players in the country. The 6’5 senior is extremely versatile, and has the ability to score from all three levels. He double-doubled in wins over Marquette and Boise State, and he posts strong lines of 15.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg, and 3.9 apg.
Lofton has a string on the offense, leading the team in assists (5.5). The 6’3 guard can also fill it up, as he scores 13.8 ppg as well.
Welch is the true definition 3-and-D, as over 70% of his shots have been threes. The 6’5 guard has hit four or more three in each of the past four games, and averaging 10.2 ppg and 5.7 rpg.
Jalen Adaway has elevated his game since coming over from Miami-Ohio. The 6’5 guard double-doubled against UConn, and he’s second on SBU in rebounding at 7.2 rpg, while scoring 13.5 ppg.
George Mason Patriots
George Mason wrapped up their non-conference slate and headed into Christmas Break on a three-game win streak. The Patriots picked up victories over Georgia and neighbors, Maryland and Navy, and they’ve responded to their extended layoff well.
GMU traveled to DC and took a tough one-point loss to conference foe and regional rival George Washington in their return to action, but they’ve picked up back-to-back home wins over Dayton and St. Joe’s.
First-year head coach Kim English struck big in the transfer market, and they’ve meshed well early. The Patriots score a solid 71.4 ppg and shoot 46.2% from the field.
Josh Oduro has taken a third-year leap in Fairfax this season. The 6’9 forward scored 32 in the win over Navy and he leads the team in scoring with 17.7 ppg, while grabbing 6.6 rpg.
D’Shawn Schwartz, Devon Cooper, and Davonte Gaines have all come in and made an immediate impact for the Patriots. Schwartz and Gaines were previously coached by English at Colorado and Tennessee respectively.
Schwartz is second on the team in scoring (15.5) and scored a game-high 27 points in the loss to GWU. Gaines scores 10.8 ppg and leads GMU in rebounding (8.2).
Cooper is third on the team in scoring (12.1), while veteran guard Xavier Johnson rounds out the lineup and averages a well-rounded 6.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and 4.4 apg.
CBB Betting Trends:
- SBU is 7-5 ATS in their last 12 road games.
- GMU is 6-6 in ATS in their last 12 home games.
- Under is 5-2 in Patriots last 8 games vs. a team with a record below .500.
Free St. Bonaventure Bonnies vs. George Mason Patriots NCAAB Prediction: GMU to Cover
This may be the toughest game on the A-10 slate this evening, as both teams have stood their ground early in conference play.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: George Mason +3.5
I’ll sway with the home team here, as Kim English has flipped the script in Fairfax. This team has a chance to make some noise in the Atlantic 10, but these are the home spots they have to show up big in. George Mason has picked up two wins in a row at EagleBank, and I’ll spot them the points in hopes of a third here.
