The South Carolina Gamecocks will be in search of their second SEC win of the season when they square off with the Razorbacks on Tuesday in Fayetteville. The Cocks have lost 3 of their last 4 games and are coming off a 71 – 63 defeat at the hands of the Florida Gators this past Saturday.
The Razorbacks are seeking a third straight win but spirits are high riding the momentum of a big upset win over LSU over the weekend in the Bayou. The Hogs went on the road as 6.5 dogs and came away with a huge 65 – 58 escaping with their 2nd conference win of the year.
After an 0 – 3 start to the SEC portion of the schedule, the Razorbacks have now won back-to-back conference games at 2 – 3 and they’ll have A&M coming into Bud Walton this next weekend.
South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks blew their chance to earn their second SEC win of the season after losing to Florida, 71 – 63. Instead, the Gators ended up picking up their first conference win of the campaign leaving the Cocks to pick up the pieces.
South Carolina has now lost 3 of their last 4 games and the starting 5 certainly has to regroup and learn how to play together. Only one player landed a double-digit scoring night in the loss to the Gators and Erik Stevenson only brought in 10 points to lead the originators on the court.
Stevenson is the team leader in scoring averaging 11.3 PPG and he is one of only two Gamecocks in double-digits this year. James Reese V saw his average drop to exactly 10 PPG after his 8-point effort against Florida. Another single-digit performance will pull his season number under 10 and that could potentially leave Stevenson as the only player above the line.
Chico Carter came off the pine and led the team with 12 points in the loss to the Gators and that brought his average up to 8.2 PPG.
The Cocks defense has held its own ranking 36th holding opponents to 39.6% shooting from the floor.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The line setters are certainly pointing to a convincing home win for the Hogs on Tuesday night in Fayetteville. The Hogs are favored by 10 points and are expected to build on their recent success.
After starting conference play 0 – 3, Arkansas has now secured wins over Missouri and LSU looking to take that momentum into tonight’s contest. The Tigers were 15 – 1 coming into the Cocks affair with LSU on Saturday and despite only getting points from 7 players the upset special was the order of the day.
The Hogs JD Notae led the way with 19 points to keep his average for the season at 18.8 PPG which leads the program. Notae has been a double-digit scorer in all 15 appearances this year as the senior from Covington, GA represents that #1 jersey rather well.
What impresses me a bit about his game is when he is doing some glass work as his 6 – 2 stature doesn’t scream inside presence. Despite that, you can see he still pulls in a chunk of boards a night.
Oh, what also helps is the fact that Notae has 4 friends around him who ALL average double-digits a night. Speaking of glass, Jaylin Williams is sporting an 8.8 average rebounding and you see this entire team around the paint which is obviously big. It’s not about size it is about positioning and having the bodies in the right spots to get those important boards that prevent second chances.

I am not one to lay double-digits often but Arkansas just has enough riding right now to take out the Gamecocks emphatically. I see a 13-point win here so…
