Houston and SMU will meet for the second time this season Sunday as the Mustangs look for a revenge victory in Houston.
After dropping a game to Tulsa in December, the Cougars have looked razor sharp since. Houston has won seven straight following an 83-60 victory over Tulane.
Houston owns the best defense in the nation, with the numbers to back it up. The Cougars allow just 56.5 points per game while limiting opponents to 36.5 percent from the field and 25 percent from downtown.
The last time these teams met, Houston owned the glass 45-32 while forcing 14 turnovers. Four different players scored in double figures, with Marcus Sasser leading the way with 17 points. Justin Gorham posted a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Quentin Grimes is also expected back in the lineup after missing the Tulane game. Grimes is averaging 17.6 PPG and will give a jolt to an already potent Houston offense.
SMU has been playing solid basketball of late. After dropping a contest against Memphis January 26, the Mustangs immediately responded with a victory over the Tigers. SMU has won three of its last four contests with wins over Temple and UCF as well as the aforementioned Memphis victory.
SMU has showcased a balanced offense this season. In their last victory over Memphis January 28, Feron Hunt led the way for the Mustangs with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Emmanuel Bandoumel added in 15 points as well for the Mustangs.
SMU has led this season by TCU transfer Kendric Davis, who is averaging 17.7 PPG to go along with 7.7 APG.
Davis struggled in his last game with just six points, but still managed to chip in four rebounds and eight assists. He posted 23 points in the Mustangs loss last time out against the Cougars and will need to replicate that effort Sunday.
SMU held Houston to just 39 percent from the field the last time these teams met. SMUs offense ranks 22nd in efficiency and shoots 36 percent from downtown. The Mustangs have posted an offensive rating of 120 or better in each of their last four games. They only did so once in their first eight contests.

I have to take the points with Houston here. SMU struggled to hang around on their home floor last time out. Houston has not had a single digit game since January 6.
