Seton Hall (9-8, 5-6) is set to face Providence (9-8, 6-5) on Wednesday at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Both teams are vying to get off the bubble and earn a signature victory to move up the ladder in the Big East standings. Providence won in overtime on the road against the Pirates back on December 3 in what was one of the better games of the season.
Seton Hall Pirates
Seton Hall has been falling a bit of late. The Pirates have lost three games in a row after going through a tough stretch of games that included two ranked Creighton and Villanova.
Seton Hall is strong on the offensive end (20th in DI in offensive rating), but they struggle on the defensive end in terms of defending the 3-point shot (they’re allowing a 38.4% clip, 320th in D-I). This is what burned them in their last matchup with the Friars. The Pirates are shooting 53.8 percent from 2-point land, 74 percent from the line, and draw the 40th most fouls in the country.
Seton Hall is 10-7 ATS this year and 6-2 ATS on the road. They’ve failed to cover in their past two games, but they’re ATS winners in four of their past five road matchups.
Senior forward Sandro Mamukelashvili has been a star this season. He is leading Seton Hall in points and rebounds with 17.6 points and 7.1 rebounds. He had 20 points, six assists and six rebounds in the first game against Providence. Jared Rhoden averages over 15 PPG as well.
Providence Friars
Like Seton Hall, Providence enters this game struggling. The Friars have lost two of their last three games after falling to Georgetown and Villanova.
While it wasn’t a problem the last time these two teams played, Providence has not shot the ball well this season. The Friars are still 42nd in the country in offensive rating despite shooting 32 percent from downtown. The Friars do a good job of taking care of the rock, but are outside the top 100 in every other offensive metric.
Seton Hall has struggled defensively this year, ranking just outside the top 200 in defensive rating. David Duke has starred this year for the Friars, averaging 18.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Duke has struggled of late, but posted a double-double earlier this year against the Pirates.
Nate Watson is averaging 17.6 PPG this season along with a team leading 6.7 RPG. A.J. Reeves is just outside of duble-digit scoring per game, averaging 9.9 PPG.
Betting Trends:
- Friars are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Friars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
- Friars are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games.
Free Seton Hall Pirates vs. Providence Friars NCAAB Prediction:
I believe the Friars will come away with another victory here. Seton Hall has been good on the road, but Providence has been better at home and has a star duo of Duke and Watson that will emerge once again here.
