Well, it all started with the Fab-5 and… I know, right, LoL
We don’t know how Juwan Howard thought it would be okay to take a swipe at an opposing coach but he did just that. Now, Howard is suspended for the rest of the season and Phil Martelli doesn’t even think the punishment fits the crime. In fact, Martelli, who will take over as interim coach for these final 5 games of the regular season. wasn’t even sure why Howard has been suspended at all apparently. Read the article here.
It sounds like Howard still hasn’t really addressed the team in person yet and Martelli has been left to pick up the pieces. In addition, Moussa Diabate and Terrance Williams II will not be on the court tonight to Michigan taking the 5th and 6th leading scorers out of the mix for Martelli.
Meanwhile, the line setters seem to think all is well in Ann Arbor listing the Wolverines at 6-point favorites on the early line. I even see Bwin and Marathon offering +6.5 on Rutgers as I write this up so there are some good prices still left out there. Those 6 points are going to end up in our pockets later.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
You and I know that Rutgers sees this as another opportunity to play well and try to sneak in another win on the road. Even though their last effort against Purdue amounted to a 1-point cover for us, the loss still comes against one of the best teams in the Big Ten. There is no real shame in getting taken down by the Boilermakers so on to this game we go.
Rutgers has been a cover machine over their last 6 games beating the line on all six occasions. I know this because I think I have recommended them here twice during this run for the Knights who are about to cover another game for us.
This team better fully take advantage of a short-handed Michigan program who have to now work with Martelli, who has been here all season, however. Naturally, Martelli only has a little bit of experience coaching in big games, LoL Years and more years at St. Joe’s gives him plenty of credibility as a head coach but this is a little bit of a different situation. I think the outbreak will cause a rift in the Michigan locker room only because they are not deep enough to get a lift from the bench.
Rutgers had 18 points from their 3-mn rotation off the bench in the loss to Purdue and starter Caleb McConnell only contributed 2 points in the effort. McConnell is normally finding his way to just under 10 PPG so he will come out looking to get back on track.
We all know that Ron Harper Jr. is going to be the how and why this Rutgers team finds an upset tonight because it’s the case every dan night. Harper is a stud and if he struggles it will be a long night for the Knights. He won’t struggle in a game that he really should excel so I expect another 20+ effort from hi tonight.
Michigan Wolverines
Obviously, we could go on and on about the lunacy watching Juwan Howard get into it with the coach who said he called a timeout with the game apparently over, right? Does everyone forget that Michigan fouled on the possession before with only 32 seconds left and then the Wolverines pressed full court with what should have just been the last possession of the game? Howard was the one pressing matters so it threw off the Badgers coach enough to call a timeout.
Wisky’s head man was not trying to rub anything in Howard’s face in the least and to me, it was Howard who was the one who should have told his kids to lay off. It was like he pressed the matter and acted like a fucking cry baby when Wisconsin took a time out. NO DUDE! You pressured the floor and made the in-bounds not just a hand-off to end the game.
Watch that video again and notice WHY Wisconsin called that TO. dumb ass! Howard needed a reason to blow off some steam and he took that as his chance to do it. Now, Michigan pays the price for his idiocy and two players who followed his lead are out for this game too.
Moussa Diabate and Terrance Williams II are 5th and 6th on the Wolverine soring depth chart and there really is no depth to start with for Michigan. Diabate started and only contributed 3 points in 19 minutes so he was pretty much a bystander most of the game until the incident got his blood going.
Williams only scored 4 points off the bench in the loss to Wisconsin from his 15 minutes on the floor so the two absences will put pressure on Buffkin and Johns who both add about 4 points a game to this point.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Scarlet Knights are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
- Scarlet Knights are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games.
- Wolverines are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Wednesday games.
- Over is 4-1 in Scarlet Knight’s last 5 road games.
Free Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Michigan Wolverines NCAAB Betting Prediction:
The way Rutgers is playing just winning or covering so often, I have to grab these 6-points while they are still there. I would love to have those 6.5 points in Europe but I am still stuck with +6 on the Knights. I am okay with that.
