The Bonnies and Spiders wrap up the regular season on Friday night at the Reilly Center and Richmond will be in search of a sweep of the season series with St. Bonaventure. Richmond took a 10-point win over the Bonnies on February 5 but it inspired St Bonaventure to a run of 7 straight wins up until their last encounter @ VCU.
The Rams 74 – 51 win over the Bonnies left the team at 4 – 4 on the road but St. Bonaventure has taken wins from 12 of their 14 games played here at Reilly Center this season. The line setters seem to favor the Bonnies who appear as -3.5-point chalk expected to win their final home game of the season.
The Spiders opened the month of March suffering a 2-point defeat at the hands of Rhode Island this past Tuesday night, 55 – 53. Richmond will most likely be a 6-seed for the A-10 tourney although if St. Louis loses to VCU on Saturday that could open the door for Richmond to steal the 5th spot in the final standings.
Richmond Spiders
I do believe that if St. Louis loses to VCU on the final day of the regular season, a Richmond with would tie them with the Billikens for 5th in the Atlantic 10 standings. St. Louis and Richmond split their season series so if they end up tied in the final standings I believe that St, Louis will still end up holding the 5th seed for the conference tourney.
The Spiders are underdogs tonight so winning at all will be the first task at hand having to follow up the close loss to Dayton last time out. Losing close games can always have two effects so the goal is to keep the chins up and get back on the horse. Richmond and the Bonnies are certainly on that edge of being invited to any post-season tournament, so this is actually a big game for both teams.
The Atlantic 10 Conference tournament will be a fun one to watch and I know I will be following most of these games. I love this conference and these games in conference play have offered some pretty good basketball this season around the A-10.
Davidson and VCU are likely the pair headed to the big show out of the conference no matter how the conference tournament plays out and Richmond are well aware that they will have to win it to get in. Winning this outing would give an experienced Spiders program their 20th win of the campaign, although many thought with what they were bringing back they would be a part of the real March Madness.
St. Bonaventure Bonnies
With a win tonight, the Bonnies can also be a 20-game winner this season along with securing the 4-seed headed towards the A-10 tourney. However, a loss for the Bonnies combined with a St. Louis win over VCU tomorrow could throw St. Bonaventure back to the 5 seed so this is not just another game to close out the regular season.
The Bonnies’ defense has been stellar over their recent 7-game win streak, but the loss to VCU last time out saw them as the team only putting up 51 points in a 23-point thumping by the Rams. We can assume that this win is going to be important to carry some type of momentum to the conference tourney because a 2-game losing skid could bring Mark Schmidt’s program confidence way down. This like that can erase that 7-game win streak and that is not the way to head into the first part of March Madness.
The Bonnies have been on that bubble for a month now although an NIT bid seems to be in the cards for Schmidt’s program. The run leading up the loss to VCU certainly impressed a lot of folks though so a deep run in the A-10 title might be enough to get the Bonnies into the NCAA Tournament. I see outlets featuring the Bonnies as a last-four out and some as a last-four in so we will see how it all works out soon enough.
While the defense is stellar, the Bonnies have 5 players averaging double-digits this season although it looks like Osun Osunniyi might be a no-go against tonight after missing the last game with that left ankle concern. Osunniyi is the 5th player on the depth chart taking in 11.2 PPG but the drop-off in production is huge beyond his output.
Abdoul Karim Coulibaly is only averaging 3.8 PPG showing you have far the distance is in scoring beyond that what is now the top-4 with Asunniyi out tonight.
CBB Betting Trends:

No sir, there will not be 140+ tonight. I see this as a 68 – 64 game that barely gets into the 130s so the under is the play here.
