Welcome to my neck of the woods as Barclays Center plays host to Purdue and North Carolina State as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational on Sunday afternoon. I will post the entire schedule for the day because this is going to be quite a full slate of hoops in New York with 4 games being played.
Bright and early at 11:30 AM the Fordham Rams are taking on the Miami Hurricanes and at about 2:00 PM Purdue will be playing this game against North Carolina State.
The evening session starts at about 4:30 PM depending on how the first two games have played out barring any overtime or lengthy opening games. The 20th ranked Florida Gators will be playing Maryland and at the conclusion of that game we expect Iona and Yale to wrap up the Sunday foursome of action in the big apple.
Purdue Boilermakers
I do not believe we will be talking about the #1 Boilers after this weekend no matter what the result of this game ends up being. Now that Purdue is a 1-loss program and Baylor sits without one, I expect the Bears to be holding on to that top spot on Monday.
Regardless, the Boilermakers need to get back on track after tasting defeat for the first time in 2021. Purdue finally got their first opportunity to be the #1 team in the land and just a week later that loss to Rutgers is going to sting.
Losing by a bucket when you are favored by about 14 points or so never does get taken lightly and I think many just didn’t see that coming so early. Oh, I remember when we had a new number 1 team seemingly every week a few years ago as it was almost a curse to get put in the top spot in the country.
Regardless, it is not like this team doesn’t have the chops to regroup and find a way to begin a new streak together before taking on Wisconsin on January 3 when Big Ten play kicks into gear.
What else can you say about the Ron Harper Jr. shot to end the Rutgers game other than it was an amazing shot from just inside halfcourt to win a basketball game!
If you haven’t seen the video of the shot to win it, uh, you prolly be wantin’ to check that out. I mean he let that thing fly as he takes a step into Purdue side of the court and it just hangs, hangs, and BAM! Drive home safely this game is over!
Man, when you take out the #1 team in the nation in that style it surely hurts but Purdue will be looking ahead with Butler on deck next before two winnable games against UIW and Nichols State.
By the same token, Villanova takes on Baylor on Sunday and that result could certainly affect where Purdue lands on the Monday rankings big board. This is going to be a decent day of hoops if you are a fan of the game, that’s for sure.
North Carolina State Wolfpack
You, me, and everyone that is in red tonight will be aware of how Purdue just picked up their first loss of 2021, and now the Wolfpack wants to try to recreate that result with a big home win on Sunday.
It is no easy task to beat Purdue and there is plenty of experience over there for the Wolfpack to be concerned with regardless of that Rutgers finish.
The Wolfpack have certainly won the games they should be winning but the two losses came against Louisville and Oklahoma State. Purdue is far and away on another level than either of those programs and Bethune-Cookman has left the building!
Dereon Seabron is Mr. Everything for this team and we know this because he leads this program in everything under the sun. He averages about 20 points a night with 11 boards an outing to go with just under 3 dimes a show.
I have covered this team twice already here and talking about Seabron’s game and watching this program play is fun because #1 is awesome and he has a bunch of help around him that can score too. This is a team that Purdue might not want to actually see right now after the loss to Rutgers.
Kevin Keatts will use his entire bench if he needs to and he has some depth to rely on this year. He has 9 players putting over 11 minutes a night and that helps when you can trust your backups to come in and produce.

Free Purdue Boilermakers vs. N.C State Wolfpack NCAAB Betting Prediction:
I think 13 points and change is worth testing my thinkdog mentality even with all of the trends that point against the Wolfpack that I posted above. I still see this as a 74 – 65 type of win for the Boilers and that covers us easily.
