A battle in the Big East is going down on Super Tuesday as the UConn Huskies will try to climb the conference rankings when they host the Providence Friars at Harry A. Gampel Pavillion at 6:30.
The Huskies are coming off a hard-fought win against a good Xavier team 80-72, while Providence dominated DePaul for 40 minutes in their last game 57-47.
Providence Friars
Providence is currently on a two-game winning streak after taking down DePaul over the weekend. The Friars are now back to over .500 after dropping three games in a row in Big East play prior to their streak. David Duke and A.J. Reeves combined for 30 of the 57 Friars points on Saturday to help lift them past the Blue Demons. They will be trying to sweep UConn for the first time since the 2008 season.
David Duke leads the Friars with 17.4 points per game, 4.9 assists, and 1.2 steals. Duke is the third leading scorer in the Big East and has become one of the top guards in the conference. Nate Watson is not too far behind him in points per game with 17.2 points per night. The big man is shooting 60.3% from the floor that is the second-best field goal percentage in the Big East. As a team, they are averaging 70.9 points on 43.31% shooting from the floor and 32.36% from three.
The Friars give up an average of 69.95 points per contest on the year, which puts them 174th in the country in scoring defense.
UConn Huskies
UConn will look to avenge their loss from earlier this season against Providence. The Huskies are coming off a convincing win over the Xavier Musketeers 80-72. UConn took the lead at the end of the first half and didn’t look back. Howard transfer R.J. Cole led the team in scoring with 24 points and lit up the Musketeers from three-point range.
Cole has taken a massive leap as the second leader of this team since James Bouknight went down with an elbow injury. He and Tyrese Martin are both averaging 12.1 points per game, but the Huskies definitely still miss the 20 points that Bouknight contributed before the injury.
The Huskies are averaging 71.74 points per game on the offensive end of the floor this season, putting them 184th in the nation in scoring offense.
UConn is shooting 43.1% from the floor this season. The Huskies knock down 7.21 shots from behind the arc a night while shooting 35.19% from the three-point range.
They are a top 60 defensive team in the country allowing just 65.36 points per game.

Free Providence Friars vs. UConn Huskies NCAAB Prediction:
I lean UConn at home in this rematch from a week ago. The Huskies have a good shot at getting back leading scorer James Bouknight in this game as he is getting closer to returning from injury. That would be a huge boost to this Huskies squad that has struggled down the stretch winning just two out of their last six games. Even without him, R.J. Cole, the transfer from Howard as emerged as the second go-to guy for Dan Hurley’s squad since Bouknight has gone down. Cole is averaging 15.5 points in that time and has bumped up his season average to 12.2 points per game. Providence has really struggled on the road and only has wins against teams when the opponent was not at full strength. Give me the Huskies to cover and get the win over the Friars on Tuesday.
