The matchup between #12 Oklahoma State and #10 West Virginia would be a good one even on a random Tuesday, but we’re treated to that tilt in a Big 12 tournament game.
These teams are very familiar with each other, with OK State scoring an 85-80 win in Morgantown on Saturday as +10 point underdogs. That’s what helped the Cowboys soar up 5 spots in the rankings.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State seems like a strange underdog in this one. They’ve not only beat West Virginia by five to close out the regular season, but also rattled off wins in 6 of their last 7 with the only loss being to #2 Baylor.
The Cowboys have basically been playing in a tournament for the last two weeks. Over the last five they’ve played #20 Texas Tech, #25 Oklahoma twice, #2 Baylor, and #10 West Virginia. The fact OSU is 4-1 over that stretch is impressive.
The Cowboys offense has come alive, with an 85 and a 94 point output over the last two. Freshman Cade Cunningham is getting on a lot of late season ballots for player of the year.
Cunningham had 40 in the win over Oklahoma at the end of February and had 24 against Baylor before missing the WVU game with an ankle injury – a game the Cowboys still won.
West Virginia Mountaineers
West Virginia’s defense doesn’t just have to shut down Cunningham, as Avery Anderson III had 31 to lead Oklahoma State vs. WVU in the last meeting.
Scoring points on the Mountaineers is nothing new though, as they have 3rd worst defense in the Big 12. West Virginia has still done pretty well though, 18-8 on the season while coming in 4th in the Big 12 in the regular season.
The reason West Virginia can pick up so many wins even with a less-than-stellar defense is because they can score. WVU has the 2nd best output in the league with 77.6 per.
Both teams scored in the 80s in the two matchups they have had against each other. Derek Culver and Miles McBride both had 20+ in the West Virginia win back in January.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Cowboys are 6-0 ATS last 6 games overall
- Over is 4-1 in Cowboys last 5 neutral site games
- Mountaineers are 5-1 ATS last 6 neutral site games
- Over is 20-8-1 in Mountaineers last 29 overall
Free Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. West Virginia Mountaineers NCAAB Prediction:
Hard not to like Oklahoma State as the outright winners here. The Cowboys are on a roll, and against some of the best teams in the country as well.
WVU is seasoned though. and their only loss besides the Oklahoma State game since February 13th was against #2 Baylor. The only problem there is OSU’s only defeat in the last seven is also to Baylor.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Oklahoma State +2.5
If Cunningham is healthy it’s looking like OSU takes this one outright. He should be healed after a couple extra days off however.
