The Ohio State Buckeyes and Purdue Boilermakers are set to do battle Friday in the Big Ten quarterfinals. Ohio State escaped the Minnesota Golden Gophers with a four point win Wednesday, while the Boilermakers got a bye for being a top-four seed.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State was able to pick up a slump-busting victory against the Golden Gophers and snap a four-game losing skid in the process. OSU won its first game in three weeks thanks to a pair of 16-point performances from Justice Sueing and Duane Washington Jr. OSU’s top player, EJ Liddell, also turned in an impressive performance with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Despite their recent cold stretch, the Buckeyes remain one of the ten best teams in basketball and are projected anywhere between a two and three seed, per Joe Lunardi. Ohio State owns the fourth most efficient offense in the nation, per Bart Torvik.
Ohio State will be out for revenge after Purdue swept the Buckeyes in two regular season meetings. The Buckeyes were unable to find their offensive rhythm during either game. Chris Holtmann’s squad shot just above 30 percent in the first meeting and 38 percent in the second.
Purdue Boilermakers
Purdue has been red hot since February 11. The Boilermakers have rattled off five consecutive victories to earn a bye in the Big Ten tournament. The Boilermakers won their regular season finale over Indiana, 67-58.
Purdue is a top-30 team in the country in both offensive and defensive rating, per Bart Torvik. During their winning streak, Purdue has shot at least 47 percent from the field in each game. They are also a dominant team on the glass, ranking 52nd and 27th in offensive and defensive rebounding percentage, respectively.
Trevion Williams leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, hauling in 15 points and 8.8 rebounds a contest. Williams has slumped through recent games, however, topping double digit points in three of the team’s last five games.
Two diaper dandies have emerged for the Boilermakers of late. Jaden Ivey, a freshman guard, is averaging 15 points, four rebounds and two assists per game in his last five contests. 7-foot-4 center has been force inside and had consecutive 20-plus point games to close out the regular season.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Buckeyes are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win.
- Buckeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games.
- Buckeyes are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games.
Free Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Purdue Boilermakers NCAAB Prediction:
Its always a challenge to beat a team three times in a season, and Ohio State should have a new burst of energy following a win against Minnesota. Purdue was able to comeback the last two times they played OSU, but they won’t be as luck this time around. The Buckeye offense breaks through in this game and gets its revenge.
