First place in the WAC is on the line as the Aggies and Redhawks battle for supremacy of the conference. The Aggies are both favored and looking for the season series sweep of the Redhawks after taking the first meeting, 79 – 64.
The Aggies have taken wins from 6 of their last 7 games and their 10 – 3 road record is about as impressive as it can get. There are really about a dozen programs in all of college hoops that can claim they have won double-digit road games this season and the Aggies are one of them.
The Redhawks have been enjoying home cooking for a while now, and this will be their 18th game as the home team and they’ve achieved a 16 – 1 record. Chris Victor has done a great job taking over this program and he is certainly committed to seeing this season out before a decision is made about taking off his interim label. Last I checked, the pay scale changes a bit when you are the head coach and not an assistant who is ‘overseeing’ the team if you will.
New Mexico State Aggies
With both teams basically tied in first place at 12 – 2 in WAC play, the Aggies could secure the season sweep of the series and really put themselves in the driver’s position for the top seed of the conference tournament.
New Mexico State certainly feels the pressure of knowing there will be only one representative from the WAC in the big dance, so it will still likely take a WAC Tournament win for this Aggies program to be a part of March Madness.
This team can sweep Seattle and really put themselves in the pole position with the 1-seed all but theirs from here. Chicago State, SF Austin, and Utah Valley remain on the schedule after this affair and a win here would really set this team up for a nice finish to take momentum into the WAC tourney.
The Aggies defense has been stellar all season long and this team has only lost 4 games all year as a result of that D. New Mexico State is ranked 17th in the nation holding their opponents to a 39.2% shooting clip from the floor, even if you do want to knock their strength of schedule a little. I think this program has played a relatively decent non and conference record, to be honest.
Teddy Allen broke out for a 30 & 10 night in the win over Grand Canyon last time out and if you haven’t been following Aggies hoops this year, well, that is nothing new. Allen is averaging over 20 PPG and as he goes the Aggies go. The Phoenix native is putting up quite a junior season with 16 games of over 19 points and the 41-point effort against Abiline Christian was a stupid showing!
Seattle Redhawks
Head Coach Chris Victor, which none of us expected to be calling him when the season was about to start, has done quite a job keeping Coach Hayford’s team in check. The interim label will do for now but a decision will have to be made as to who carries the Redhawks past 2022. Victor has/had been the assistant coach here since 2017
Seattle can ill-afford to get swept by New Mexico State, although the line setters seem to think that Seattle might be taking a home loss tonight. I was born in 1969 and as you can see that was the last season that Seattle landed in the NCAA Tournament. Coach Hayford got Seattle to a CBI and CIT appearance in his first two campaigns with Seattle, but this team is chasing down some history this year. When 52 years go by in-between anything in life? It is considered a long enough wait so might this be the season that Victor takes the Redhawks to the big dance?
A win tonight will certainly make a difference but seeing two WAC programs in the NCAA Tournament might not happen no matter how many wins these two teams put together.
Seattle and New Mexico State have 44 wins between them but no supposed expert out there has 2 WAC programs in their brackets. Most of the experts are showing Seattle as the projected WAC automatic entrant and that’s it. When the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas comes to a close, the winner will move on, and if it is one of these two schools I think the other will land in the NIT, at least.
Darrion Trammell is just as dangerous as Allen is for the Aggies and he has a little more support around him that is making me lean Redhawks at home.
Cameron Tyson and Riley Grigsby can certainly land a 15-point night on a moment’s notice and everyone on this team will have to chi in tonight to ensure this is a win at home.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Aggies are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
- Redhawks are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
- Over is 4-1 in Aggies’ last 5 overall.
- Over is 10-4 in Aggies’ last 14 road games.
- The road team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.
Free New Mexico State Aggies vs. Seattle Redhawks NCAAB Betting Prediction:
Mr. Allen has enough around him for the oddsmakers to expect the Aggies to be favored on the road in a place that only 1 team has won all season. Seattle is so tough here and I see the three-headed trio of Trammell, Tyson, and Grigsby making it too much for the Aggies to sweep Seattle. Redhawks win outright.
Oh, and the 141 is hysterical!! Play that Over and cash two tickets instead of one!
