Nebraska Cornhuskers
Nebraska finally managed to add a conference win to their resume. The Cornhuskers hosted Minnesota, and picked up just their second win since November, 78-65.
Freshman Bryce McGowens has been the Cornhuskers most consistent player this season. The 6’7 guard has scored 20 or more in four of the last six games, including a career-high 29 points in the two-point loss to Rutgers. He’ll likely have his name called at draft this summer, and he leads the team with 16.7 ppg, while grabbing 5.3 rpg.
Alonzo Verge Jr. has struggled since the start of conference play, but he finally broke out for a season-high 22 points in the win over Minnesota last time out. The Arizona State transfer is posting strong averages of 14.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and a team-leading 5.2 apg.
Derrick Walker has improved a lot after transferring in from Tennessee. The 6’9 junior leads the team in rebounding (5.7) and he’s third in scoring (9.4).
Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa responded to their first two-game skid of the season by blowing out Minnesota and Maryland earlier this week. A record game from longtime Hawkeye Jordan Bohannon led to a season-high 110 points in the win over the Terps.
Iowa’s offense has much more juice on the court than it does on the gridiron. Fran McCaffery’s team ranks fifth in the country in scoring at 83.4 points per game, and they should 46% from the field as a team.
Keegan Murphy has turned into one of the best scorers in college basketball. The 6’8 forward scored a career-high 35 points in the first meeting against Maryland, before scoring 30 points on an efficient 12-14 from the field in the road win on Thursday.
Murray leads the Big Ten in scoring at 22.7 points per game, while leading the Hawkeyes in rebounding (8.5)
Jordan Bohannon represents arguably the most experienced player in the country. The 6’1 point guard is the catalyst for one of the most efficient offenses in the country, and his high-IQ level play makes this offense go. Bohannon snapped against the Terps, scoring a career-high 30 points, hitting a school record of 10 threes along the way.
Patrick McCaffery joins Murray in the frontcourt, and the coach’s youngest son is second on the team in scoring (11.2).
Kris Murray, brother of Keegan, scores 9.7 ppg.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Nebraska is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games.
- Iowa is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games.
- Over is 7-3 in Hawkeyes last 10 home games.
