This may not be Houston but apparently, we have a problem in Memphis! Did you see the ESPN article the other day now that the Tigers are facing a 3-game losing streak coming into this game? Well, you can open that article HERE and see what is being said because I cannot go too nuts over it all.
Oh, did you play Ole Miss when they played Memphis because I told you this team was overrated and about to be seen for what they really are? I love how many people this team is uber-talented and questioning how things could get so bad.
Dude, now you see why there is more than just one problem happening on and off the court for this program. Are the upperclassmen wanting more time and not happy with their minutes? Is Penny trying the reverse psychology stuff calling his team a bunch of AAU talent paying the way they are right now?
Murray State has no problem watching it all in the news but the Racers still have to travel to Memphis and the line setters don’t like their chances. The Racers are double-digit road underdogs on Friday night and that has my attention, of course.
Murray State Racers
The Racers come into Memphis playing well with only the one loss to Eastern Tennessee but they have rebounded from that to carry a 4-game win streak into this Friday night tilt.
This Racers program has been that team that no one wants to face over the past few years under Matt McMahon. This program was taking 20+ wins for 3 years until last year’s subtle 13 – 13 that obviously was a letdown campaign.
McMahon has accumulated a 130 – 65 record in his time with the Racers but that schedule sure hasn’t provided many big moments. The Racers took on a relatively weak non-conference schedule to get off to a 7 – 1 start but the shit is about to get real now.
The Racers have been true to their name as they are averaging 83.4 PPG good for 20th in the nation in scoring. The 51.3% shooting from the floor has this program ranked 7th in the land and they are not exactly defensively sound. This team is giving up 65 points a night to some teams that aren’t exactly screaming with talent so this could be a high-scoring affair.
Tevin Brown and K.J Williams can both take over a game at any moment as they are both averaging about 18 points a night leading the way for the Racers on a nightly basis. This team is deep and goes 4 into the bench so I expect them to give more a fight than the line setters seem to be giving them credit for.
Memphis Tigers
This is why the eye-test matters. You can see this team is not playing together and you can see it in the public eye now too. When your head coach literally calls you a bunch of AAU guys after the season this program just had? You know he is not only calling them out but he is also trying to provide some type of motivation to get it together off the court.
It is no mystery now that the team has some grunts and groans around campus and if it doesn’t get fixed soon it could be a long campaign. Conference play is just around the corner and no one wants to be struggling with their final non-conference slate as that draws near.
I would love to point out a handful of things from that article because you can see it, man. How do you think I knew Ole Miss would pull the upset and take out the Tigers last time out. The writing was already on the wall and now it is just being made more public with every comment and every missed shot.
Defensively, you can see the Tigers are having issues allowing 67.5 PPG thus far, and I definitely think the free-throw line is a spot that Penny gets pissed about. Leaving free points off the board can piss a coach off to no end and Memphis is ranked 266th shooting 67.1% from the charity stripe.
Oh, in case you haven’t noticed, ALABAMA AND TENNESSEE are on deck for Memphis and both are ranked SEC teams that love seeing Memphis struggle right now. If this run includes a loss to Murray State tonight at home, the shit is going to hit the fan, the wall, the dorms, the classrooms, and it might take out a professor or two as well!
CBB Betting Trends:
- Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Friday games.
- Over is 3-1-1 in Racers’ last 5 Friday games.
Free Murray State Racers vs. Memphis Tigers NCAAB Betting Prediction:
I know there are a lot of under-trends here to notice but I still see this game ending in the 70s. I can see a 75 – 72 type of game playing out so that is why I thinkdog and hunch to the Over.
