West Virginia is expected to advance to the second round pretty easily, as oddsmakers have made them -13 point favorites over Morehead State on Friday night. The Eagles are red hot though.
In their last 20 games, Morehead State has gone 19-1. Sure the competition isn’t what West Virginia faces as the Eagles’ strength of schedule is 180th (WVU 13th) but that’s definitely some momentum.

Morehead State’s defense definitely has a challenge facing the Mountaineers, who have the 11th best offensive efficiency in the country. The Eagles’ conference tournament ended March 6th, so they’ll be rested.
It looks like WVU was struggling down the stretch losing three of their last four, but two of those defeats came against red hot Oklahoma State, #11 in the country. The other loss was 89-94 to #3 Baylor, in OT.
West Virginia is the kind of stacked offensive team that can cover the double digit spread in their tournament opener. The Mountaineers were 2nd in the Big 12 in scoring 77.3 ppg, but their defense was 3rd worse (72.1).
West Virginia has star power too. Derek Culver is the team’s emotional leader, putting up 14.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. He’s not even the leading scorer though, as Miles McBride averages 15.3 ppg.
