The Monmouth Hawks will travel and take on the Manhattan Bobcats this Thursday evening.
Monmouth will be favored to win by six here on the road.
Monmouth jumped out to a strong start during non-conference play, picking up qualities wins over Cincinnati, Princeton, Pittsburgh and near-win over St. John’s. The Hawks missed a month of action then proceeded to drop their first three MAAC games. They’ve since recovered, and if that can catch Iona, they have as good a resume as anyone.
Fifth-year senior George Papas has played big this season. The 6’5 guard scored a season-high of 31 points in the win over Lehigh, and he’s hit four or more threes in four of his last six games. If he has a big game, things usually go well for the Hawks.
Papas is leading the team with 16.2 points per game, while posting 5.9 pg and 3.1 apg.
Fellow fifth-year senior Marcus McClary scores 9.5 ppg, and brings more experienece to the lineup.
Walker Miller (UNC) and Shavar Reynolds Jr. (Seton Hall) transferred in from bigger schools and have flourished with additional playing time in Long Branch. Miller has asserted himself as a force down low. Despite never averaging more than one point over four seasons at UNC, Miller is scoring an impressive 14.8 ppg, while grabbing 6.4 rpg.
Reynolds Jr., a Jersey native, scored 21 points in the loss to Iona, and he’s third on the team in scoring (14.6)
Manhattan has dropped three games after getting off to a promising start this season. The Jaspers have lost five of their last six games, with all five losses coming on the road.
Jose Perez has come in and been a stud for the Jaspers. The Marquette transfer plays a versatile game, and he’s caught fire as of late. The 6’5 forward has scored 22 or more in eight of the last nine games, including a career-high 38 points on the road against Niagara.
Perez leads the team in scoring (19.3) and assists (4.5), while grabbing 3.4 rpg.
Eli Buchanan and Ant Nelson make up the Manhattan backcourt. Nelson is second on the team in scoring (10.2), but he went 1/10 in the first meeting with Monmouth. Buchanan has reached double figures in each of the past four games, and hr brags 4.8 rpg.
Josh Roberts is coming off of his second double-double of the season, and he leads the team in rebounding (5.6).
CBB Betting Trends:
- Monmouth is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games.
- Manhattan is 5-5 ATS in their last 10 home games.
- Over is 8-4 in Hawks last 12 as a favorite.
Free Monmouth Hawks vs. Manhattan Jaspers NCAAB Prediction: Monmouth to Cover
Monmouth has to keep things going here if they want to return to the Big Dance.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Monmouth -5.5
Manhattan’s recent struggles stand out here, and if the Hawks can contain Jose Perez as they did in the first meeting, they shouldn’t have much trouble here. George Papas and Walker Miller lead a trustworthy bunch, and I’m giving them another shot Friday.
Take Monmouth’s spread Friday night.
