The Blue Raiders head to SEC country to take on the Ole Miss Rebels on Wednesday evening at the Pavilion.
Middle Tennessee improved to 8 – 2 last time out with a win over UT Martin and they’ve also taken 4 wins over the last 5 games. The loss to Murray State basically accounts for the most difficult game on this Blue Raiders schedule this season. All right, we’ll put Stephen F. Austin in there too, but IMO this Blue Raiders schedule thus far looks rather weak.
Ole Miss has used the Pavilion to take 5 wins from efforts in the building this season and they are favored to make it 6 – 0 at home to start the 2021 campaign. The real tests for this Rebels squad will come when Dayton comes to visit and the ranked Gators will be coming to the Pavilion as SEC play will take us to the madness of March from there.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
The line setters know what we know, and it is certainly a result of Middle Tennessee losing to the only real programs they have faced through 10 games. Murray State and Stephen F. Austin are both decent programs but Ole Miss will be expected to cruise to a win over this Blue Raider team that is already 1 – 2 on the road.
Eli Lawrence put up another nice performance in the win over UT Martin last time out cashing in for 21 points, 7 boards, and he just looks comfortable shooting the damn ball. Lawrence went 7 of 9 from the floor, 3 of 5 from behind the arc, and he left 3 freebies on the line going 4 for 7 from the stripe in the 84 – 75 win.
One thing this Blue Raiders team has done is cover 7 of their 8 games, which is essentially just paperwork but it looks good to those who chase trends.
Justin Bufford got another start against UT Martin and he pulled another flop taking in only 3 points from 12 minutes. With depth being a bit of an issue, Bufford needs to start contributing when he gets his chances before he gets bypassed as a starter.
Josh Jefferson struggled in the UT Martin win as well only putting in 7 points from 33 minutes on the court. Jefferson is second on this team in scoring putting up 12.2 PPG although he came away with 31 points in the loss to Murray State after two games under double-digits.
Freshman Christian Fussell is the only dude in this lineup that presents any kind of size inside and he is in a guard-heavy offense that really only puts two forwards on the floor.
Mississippi Rebels
The Rebels schedule can certainly be just as contradicted, and if anyone here wants to label Memphis as a good program, we can discuss that after the Alabama game. Should Memphis fall to 5 – 5 after the 5 – 0 start, Ole Miss had a part in that downfall for the Tigers.
While Memphis goes in one direction, Ole Miss needs to really turn on the lights because things are about to get much more difficult. First of all, if you haven’t seen a Dayton game yet BUCKLE UP, BABY! Dayton is going to walk into the Pavilion and give Ole Miss all they can handle on the 18th.
And then, the next concern we need to have for Ole Miss… WTF WAS THAT?
Western Kentucky handed Ole Miss their ass at the Holiday Hoops Classic and when you get skunked like that the confidence is shot! The Hilltoppers didn’t just beat the Rebels, okay. Jarkel Joiner had 13 points to lead the Rebels in scoring as they took an obnoxious beatdown, 71 – 48.
I said their leading fucking scorer put in 13 fucking points against fucking shit Western Kentucky outfit. First of all, Ole Miss was favored by 6 and the line setters think they are solid?
Yeah, listen… Ole Miss is going to get their ass so handed them throughout SEC play that you better fade the shit out of this team from January through March. Here… 4 conference wins is the ceiling for this program, ya like them apples? Thank me throughout your betting season when Ole Miss gets their ass kicked night after night.
