The Memphis Tigers will arrive at the Pavilion slightly favored over Ole Miss on Saturday in a high-noon showdown in Oxford, MS.
The 18th ranked Tigers jumped out to a 5 – 0 start to the 2021 season but here they are facing their first two-game losing streak of the year as they hit the Pavilion on Oxford. Losses to Iowa State and Georgia have taken the Tigers from the top-10 down to that 18th spot and the loss to Georgia left a lot of jaws dropped.
The Bulldogs were 12-point dogs against the Tigers but the 82 – 79 upset over Memphis now has the Tigers looking for their confidence again.
Ole Miss wrapped up their trip to Charleston and has returned home to win their last two games played here at the Pavilion. The Rebels are a perfect 4 – 0 in this building thus far but they’ll be leaving for Atlanta next weekend when they take part in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event.
Memphis Tigers
A road trip to recover from a tough loss might be a good thing because losing to this year’s version of Georgia really doesn’t look good for this Tigers’ team. We really should be talking about the 12th ranked 6 – 1 Tigers but that number took a pretty big hit down to 18th in the land.
Has anyone else noticed that Penny looks down at his bench and really doesn’t have a clue who he has to produce? Alex Lomax, at least, gave the Tigers something off the pine with 14 points against Georgia and that about wraps up the secondary production on the night.
All right, there were 2 points apiece for both Jayden Hardaway and Tyler Harris who were in there for 5 minutes each, yay!
Listen, I see Memphis going through more of this struggling stuff and just because the polls see the Tigers as a good team we don’t have to. I don’t, and we will see team tested again soon when Alabama and Tennesee walk into Memphis after the Murray State affair next weekend.
Dandridge and Lawson being out of the lineup will add to the lack of production from the bench and I just feel this team is overrated.
Mississippi Rebels
The Rebels are obviously aware that the TIgers are down from the Georgia affair and the obvious goal for Coach Kermit Davis is to get his kids to keep them uncomfortable in the Pavilion.
Ole Miss has put the loss to Boise State at the Shriner’s Classic behind them with two convincing wins over Miss Valley State and Rider entering this weekend.
Jarkel Joiner has been a stud thus far, taking the team on his back at times and leading this team in scoring averaging 15.4 PPG. joiner has been a double-digit scorer in all 7 games this year and he’s coming off an 18-point game against Rider last time out.
Jaemyn Brakefield needs a double-digit night to become a double-digit scorer as he sits on 9.9 PPG behind Joiner in scoring. Brakefield is also bringing in just under 5 boards a night as his all-around game has certainly improved from the 3.5 PPG output in his freshman campaign last year.
Georgia Tech and LSU will be the other two teams joining Ole Miss and the Hilltoppers for that Hoopsgiving tourney.

Free Memphis Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels NCAAB Betting Prediction:
Why is this total almost 140? I am sorry, but I do not see both of these squads finding 70+ apiece to get this total over that number. I see a 67 – 63 type of game and a 130 combined tally, so play the Under 139. Oh, we might see an upset as you see which team I am giving those 67 points to is the Rebels at home!
Memphis might just be going on a 3-game slide while the Rebels continue to win at the Pavilion.
