Marquette has followed a four-game skid by winning seven of their last eight Big East games, including underdog victories over Providence, Seton Hall, and Villanova. Shaka Smart’s team has been very profitable this season and they find themselves in another one of those spots.
Justin Lewis Lewis thriving in his second season in Milwaukee. The 6’7 forward put up a season-high 23 points in the win over Providence and he’s leading the team in scoring (16.6) and rebounding (7.9)
Darryl Morsell exploded for a season-high 26 points in the home win over Seton Hall. The Maryland transfer is second on the team in scoring (13.5), while grabbing 3.5 rpg and dishing out 2.6 apg.
Tyler Kolek brings a lot of versatility to the lead guard role. The pass-first GMU transfer leads the team in assists (6.1), while scoring 6.6 ppg and grabbing 4.2 rpg. Freshman guard Kam Jones is third on the team in scoring (7.6) and he’s hit multiple threes in seven of the previous eight games.
Kur Kuath, an Oklahoma transfer, had a career-best seven blocks in the win over Providence, and he ranks sixth in the country in blocks per game (3.1).
UConn Huskies
UConn enjoyed a strong start to the season, picking up notable non-conference wins over VCU, Auburn, and St. Bonaventure. The Huskies were riding a four-game winning streak heading into February, but it ended when they slipped up against Creighton and Villanova last week.
Dan Hurley’s unit is one of highest scoring offenses (78.3 ppg), and strongest rebounding (41.2 rpg) squads in the nation.
R.J. Cole leads the team in scoring after getting off to a hot start. The 6’2 guard scored 26 points against VCU, and he’s leading the team in scoring (16.4) and assists (4.5)
Strong rebounding guards Tyrese Martin and Andre Jackson join him in the backcourt, both averaging 6.5 and 7.7 rpg respectively.
Adama Sanogo is really coming into his own this season. The 6’10 sophomore has been dominant, and he posted a remarkable 26/18 line in the win over St. John’s. Sanogo scores 14.9 ppg, while leading the team in rebounding (8.1).
Longtime Husky Isaiah Whaley remains in the fold, and the fifth-year senior is averaging 7.7 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
