It’s tiiime! Ahh, you know, it just doesn’t take the same effect when you type it but it is time for the ACC / Big Ten Challenge, baby! Can I get a Wooo!?
I think a lot of players and bettors alike have been looking forward to this point of the season now that December is here. As conference play draws near, these December games will basically set the tone for the back half of the season.
Louisville hits the road fresh off their Bahamas Championship after beating Maryland in the title game, 63 – 55. The Cards have been a sound defensive team through their first 6 games of the 2021 campaign Louisville is ranked 25th in the land holding teams to a 37.4% shooting clip and Coach Mack has some big bodies up front to rely on.
Michigan State has jumped out to a nice start to their 2021 season as well. Sparty made it to the Battle Of Atlantis finals, albeit a discouraging loss to Baylor, 75 – 58, and now they get to return home to host an ACC / Big Ten Challenge affair at the Breslin Center.
Louisville Cardinals
You know, when you look at the rebounding rankings for Louisville it makes you shake your head, right? So good at grabbing offensive boards and yet they don’t seem to know how to box out well on defense.
The Cards defense is ranked 229th in defensive rebounding and yet their offensive numbers have them ranked 21st in the nation.
Well, it was useful in the finals to hoist the first piece of hardware in 2021 from the Bahamas so is this one of those let-down spots after a big tourney win? Or, will the Cards take that momentum into a big game on Wednesday night against a Sparty team that has played well defensively in the early going.
Jaelyn Withers and Malik Williams both picked up double-digit rebounds in the clinching game over Maryland in the Bahamas. Williams struggled from the floor but he did hit all 6 of his free throw attempts to end the game with 13 points and 12 boards.
Matty Cross provided a nice spark off the bench playing 24 minutes picking up 8 points and 5 rebounds.
Michigan State Spartans
Sparty comes off that title game loss at Atlantis, but there is no doubt that Coach Izzo will have his guys ready to return home and get back on track. The loss to Baylor is nothing to hang your head about because last we checked the Bears are pretty good… just a bit!
So, home cooking is good for the Holidays and they will be here until they start Big Ten play in Minnesota on December 8.
Sparty looked good against Loyola-Chicago and UConn and when you win close games like that against sound programs that obviously builds confidence. The Big Ten is certainly going to be a big betting conference for the rest of the season, so buckle up, Sunshine!
Michigan State is once again playing well defensively as they are ranked right next to Louisville in the opponent’s FG %. Louisville is ranked 27th as I mentioned, and Sparty is sitting in the 25th spot holding foes to a similar 37.6% from the floor.
Marcus Bingham Jr. is a stud and you will see as much on Wednesday night. Bingham is only playing 22 minutes a game right now and he is averaging 11 & 7 this season. He, along with everyone else, are coming off tough outings because the Baylor defense just stifled them all night long to take the title in the Bahamas.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Cardinals are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
- Spartans are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games.
- The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
- The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
Free Louisville Cardinals vs. Michigan State Spartans NCAAB Betting Prediction:
It comes down to the final few minutes in a close game, so I just hope the Cardinals don’t let a tight game get away late. Regardless, I see this as a 3-point game and we have seen when Sparty plays good teams it comes down to the wire. Let it be the case again, is all I am asking for.
