Saturday’s marquee matchup sees #1 Kansas taking on #18 Villanova at noon in Philadelphia.
Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas has ripped off nine straight wins on their way atop the AP Polls, and their only loss came at on opening night at the hands of Duke. The Jayhawks have covered in six of those nine wins and have covered their last five straight.
The most impressive of those wins being against #13 Dayton, whose adjusted offense sits at 6th in KenPom’s ratings. The Jayhawks managed to pour in 90 points against Dayton at home and snagged a six-point win.
The Jayhawks are led by the power-duo of Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike. Dotson is averaging 20 points/game on 50% from the field, and Azubike is averaging 15 points/game on 83% (!!!!!) from the field.

Kansas scores the seventh-most points/game in the nation and is ranked sixth in KenPom adjusted defense. Their shooting splits have been bananas: 60% from two and 37% from three for a total of 53% from the field.
Villanova Wildcats
This is a huge game for Villanova, who have won four straight. However, their two losses come against the only two ranked teams they have played this season (and they got absolutely roasted by both of them).
Moreover, they are putrid against the spread. The Wildcats are 3-6-1 ATS and haven’t covered in their last six and the last time the Wildcats covered was exactly one month ago today. Pathetic.
KenPom has Nova rated 19th in the nation, behind a third rated adjusted offense (one that trails only Gonzaga and Iowa). Jay Wright’s squad scores just over 80 points/game, good for 31st in the country.
Nova scores by riding the three-point shot, as they average 25 three-point shots a game and generally drain about 10 of them (good for a 38% clip).
Their attack is led by 6-8 forward Saddiq Bey, who’s averaging 16 points/game on 54/44/84 shooting splits.
The Wildcat defense absolutely stinks, sitting at 86th in KenPom’s ratings and giving up about 70 points/game (just sneaking in the top-200 in the country).
Both Ohio State (10th in KenPom adjusted offense) and Baylor (27th in adjusted offense) shot almost 60% against the Wildcat defense. This could prove to be another rough defensive outing.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Total has gone over in Kansas’ last 5 of 7 Saturday games.
- Total has gone over in Villanova’s last 6 of 7 Saturday games.
- Total has gone over in three of Kansas’ last four games.
- Over is 7-4 for Villanova this season.
Free Kansas Jayhawks vs. Villanova Wildcats NCAAB Prediction:
Both these teams can score and score a lot.
It might be a sin to pick an over in an early game but the shooting splits for both of these teams are ridiculous.
Nova shoots a boatload of threes and are bound to make a few against this Kansas defense. Meanwhile, Azubuike and Dotson are going to shred an undersized Nova team down low.
I see significant defensive issues for Nova at the 4 and the 5, as their bigs don’t go taller than 6-9 and Wright is going to ask them to take on a wicked talented, and efficient, Kansas frontcourt.
One would think Kansas dominates in this spot, until one looks at recent trends. Nova is 7-1 ATS in their last eight against the Big 12 and Kansas is 1-4 in their last five against the Big East.
Nova has covered in seven of the last eight matchups between these two teams, and they’ve won four of the last six. Villanova has had a tough year so far but they seem to perform against Kansas, and they’ll also be at home.
I lean Nova as a home-dog but will stay away from taking a side. Additionally, I think it’s very reasonable to expect a high-powered, points-fueled high-noon matchup between two top-20 teams.
Enjoy, and remember: Life’s too short to bet the under!
