Friday college hoops has an inner conference BIG 12 showdown in the works between the Kansas Jayhawks (20-8, 12-6 BIG12) and the Texas Longhorns (18-7, 11-6 BIG 12). These two teams have both tournament quality teams and have been tested all year as they’ve been competing in the stacked BIG 12 conference.
Kansas has won 8 of their last 9 games entering this matchup with their only loss coming from these Longhorns. It took place on February 23rd in Austin and was the second time they were defeated by Texas this year with the other being a blow out in Allen Fieldhouse. Despite the last matchup being a high scoring 75-72 overtime affair both teams struggled to shoot the ball.
Kansas actually had higher percentages although they were only 40% (26/65) from the field and 33.3% (8/24) from 3 point range. The Jayhawks had plenty of missed opportunities as they only were 57.1% (12/21) from the charity stripe. Texas won but their shooting splits were mediocre at 37.7% (23/61) overall and a terrible 19.2% (5/26) from deep. They did own a large advantage from the free throw line shooting 77.4% (24/31) which made the differenence.

The streaking Kansas Jayhawks will be looking to get revenge on the Texas Longhorns during this Tuesday’s Big 12 Conference game. Kansas was handed their lone home loss on January 2nd to Texas in an embarrassing 84-59 beatdown.
Kansas had their worst shooting performance all season going 20/65 (30.8%) from the field and 3/23 (13%) from deep range which made all the difference as Texas shot the ball well going 30/61 (49.2%) and 12/26 (46.2%) from 3PT. Texas had 8 players receive minutes with 5 of those scoring in double figures which is a testament to their great offensive performance. Jalen Wilson was the lone bright spot for the Jayhawks scoring 20 points and adding 7 rebounds meanwhile the other players were never able to find a groove.
Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas started the year slowly and fell out of the rankings for the first time in a long time. However, they quickly have gotten themselves back in line and rattled off 8 wins in their last 9 games to get back to the #11 spot nationally. That lone loss came to the Longhorns who have beaten them twice this year and will look to make it a third time on Friday.
Kansas will be without big man David McCormack who has been ruled out of the tournament due to COVID protocols. The 6-foot-10, 265-pound center was second on Kansas in both scoring and rebounding (13.4 points and 6.4 boards per game) and the Jayhawks will miss his inside presence against a Texas lineup with plenty of size and rebounding ability.
Texas Longhorns
No. 13 Texas rallied in the closing minutes to beat No. 20 Texas Tech 67-66 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday night. Matt Coleman scored a game high 19 points, dished out 6 assists, and scored the go-ahead free throws with 1.8 seconds left in the wire to wire victory. The Longhorns shot a solid 45 percent from the floor and 42 percent from 3-point range in that contest and are now 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four games.
The Longhorns have 4 players averaging in double figures and Andrew Jones leads the team with 15.6 points to go along with 4.7 rebounds as he continues to have a great year after once being diagnosed with cancer.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Texas is 4-0 ATS in last 4 games
- Texas is 4-0 SU in last 4 games
- Texas UNDERS are 5-1 in last 6 neutral site games

Free Kansas Jayhawks vs. Texas Longhorns NCAAB Prediction:
This game has the makings to be a great one between two competitive nationally ranked teams. Kansas has been rolling as of late but Texas has seemed to have their number all year. The first matchup was a blowout and the second was much closer which makes me believe the trend will continue in Bill Self and Kansas’ favor. I’ll take Kansas to win in a close one and break the streak.
