The Indiana Hoosiers have already picked up a Big Ten Conference win and they’ll look for another when they head to Madison on Wednesday to face the Badgers.
The Hoosiers and Badgers have matching 7 – 1 records entering this tilt at the Kohl Center. Indiana just picked up that conference win against Nebraska last time on the floor with a convincing 68 – 55 victory over the Huskers.
Meanwhile, the Badgers are carrying a modest 5-game win streak into this home game after picking up their first and only loss to Providence back on November 15.
Wisconsin will be playing back-to-back Big Ten games before they really get into the chunk of the conference schedule on New Year’s Day. A trip to face Ohio State will provide another game worth watching just as this one is likely going to amount to be.
So, tune into the Big Ten Network at 7 p.m ET so you can see two of the premier teams in this conference go at it on Wednesday night at the Kohl Center.
Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers Trayce Jackson-Davis is a 6 foot 9″ 250-pound animal that has bad intentions and all of us can only hope he stays in school past this season.
Naturally, now that he will have a third-year under his belt and is producing stupid numbers as he is, the attention will be on his expectations of going pro when this season comes to a close. Trayce is putting up 21 points a night and easily leading this team in scoring, rebounding, water making and I hear he can knit too!
Yeah, that is not something I have actually heard so don’t hold me to that, I am just sayin’ that the dude can do anything he wants to do! Well, the free-throw numbers could use some improving but he still is going to get his game on every night.
The defensive numbers this team is producing thus far are impressive as we are talking about the 7th ranked team that only allows teams to shoot 35.3% from the floor.
Xavier Thompson and Race Johnson are both putting up double-digits per game and big Race is not far from putting up a double-double every night. Johnson is at 8.9 boards per showing just a dash ahead of Jackson Davis’ 8.6 boards a pop.
Indiana has got to figure out how to beat Wisconsin at some point, as they have gone down to the Badgers in 8 of the last 9 meetings.
Wisconsin Badgers
If there is one thing we have to give credit to the Badgers for doing it is not taking on a schedule full of cupcakes. It is one thing to be riding a 5-game winning streak but have you seen who they have gotten past to pull that off?
Texas A&M, Houston, St. Mary’s, Georgia Tech, and Marquette, and that is some formidable stuff! The win over Marquette is obviously a rivalry game for those unaware of how those two feel about each other. That was a nice way to roll into this game having kicked Marquette’s ass this past Saturday, 89 – 76.
The Badgers are a bit of a two-man show because Johnny Davis and Brad Davison simply do so much to lead this team. Davis is one of about 33 dudes averaging 20 points or more per game and he also buries 40.7% of his shots from behind the arc.
Greg Gard depends on his main 5 to do most of the damage on a nightly basis and the bench really just fills in if foul trouble comes or if the pace is up and down. You can see that 5 of his starters play about 30 minutes a night which is exactly what he likes to see.
Crowl, Hepburn, and Wahl will be on the floor most of the night and they will be expected to carry this team from start to finish for the most part.
