The Richmond Spiders will host the another in-state rival, the George Mason Patriots, from the Robins Center for some Atlantic 10 action.
Richmond is favored to win by seven at the road here.
George Mason Patriots
George Mason ripped off four straights wins after opening A-10 play with a one-point loss to George Washington, but they’ve dropped their last two by seven points combined.
First-year head coach Kim English struck big in the transfer market, and they’ve meshed well early. The Patriots score a solid 72.9 ppg and shoot 46.7% from the field.
Josh Oduro has taken a third-year leap in Fairfax this season. The 6’9 forward scored 32 in the win over Navy and he leads the team in scoring with 17.7 ppg, while grabbing 6.4 rpg.
D’Shawn Schwartz, Devon Cooper, and Davonte Gaines have all come in and made an immediate impact for the Patriots. Schwartz and Gaines were previously coached by English at Colorado and Tennessee respectively.
Schwartz is second on the team in scoring (15.8) and scored a game-high 27 points in the loss to GWU. Gaines scores 11.2 ppg and leads GMU in rebounding (8.7).
Cooper is third on the team in scoring (13.1), while veteran guard Xavier Johnson rounds out the lineup and averages a well-rounded 6.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and 4.4 apg.
Richmond Spiders
Richmond ended the non-conference slate on a six-game winning streak, that included a road win over N.C. State and a victory over Toledo at the Robins Center. The Spiders have won five of their last six games, and they were able to defeat St. Bonaventure at home last time out, 71-61.
The Spiders scored 73.4 ppg, and carry one of the most experienced groups in the country.
Tyler Burton is the youngest member of the starting lineup as a junior and he leads the team in scoring at 17.2 ppg. The 6’7 forward is coming off a career-high 36 points in the home win over the Bonnies.
Grant Golden was granted a sixth season by the NCAA, and he remains a hassle on the low block for opposing teams. The captain is averaging 14.7 ppg, while grabbing 6.4 rpg and dishing out a respectable 3.1 apg.
Jacob Gilyard and Nick Sherod both returned for their fifth season’s and they’ve given UR strong guard play once again. Gilyard has been a menace defensively, swiping four or more steals seven times this season. He’s posting a full line of 12.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, a team-leading 6.1 apg, and an A10-leading 3.3 spg.
Nathan Cayo also came back for his fifth year in RIchmond, and the 6’7 forward scored 18 points in the win over La Salle.
CBB Betting Trends:
- George Mason is 7-4 ATS in their last 11 games.
- Richmond is 7-4 ATS in their last 11 games.
- Over is 5-1 in the Spiders last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
