The 20th ranked Florida Gators come into the Big Apple in much better shape than the Terps who are just getting used to having a new head coach. Danny Manning has been brought in to right the Terps’ ship but his first game resulted in a loss to Northwestern, 67 – 61.
The Terps have now lost 3 straight games coming into this trip to Gotham and this game is part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational event being played at the Barclays Center.
The day will start at 11:30 AM with the Fordham Rams taking on the Miami Hurricanes and somewhere around 2:00 PM Purdue will be playing their game against North Carolina State hoping to rebound from picking up their first loss of 2021.
The evening session starts at about 4:30 PM with this game and Iona will face Yale to put a stamp on the four-pack of action here in New York.
The Gators are likely feeling a bit disrespected knowing the oddsmakers really aren’t expecting a convincing win over a struggling Terps squad on a neutral floor in New York.
The Florida defense is going to shut this Terps offense down all night long and I cannot believe we only have to lay a handful of points to cash this ticket.
I know, what the hell happened against Texas Southern, right? The first SWAC team to beat an SEC squad had to happen against the Gators as good as they had looked to that point of the early 2021 campaign. By the same token, that loss to Oklahoma raised some more eyebrows so how good are these Gators?
Starting the week with a big loss as 24 point favorites could certainly be a reason to knock Florida out of the top-25 and a loss to Maryland would 100% ensure that would happen. There is no way the Gators can afford to lose any of their last non-conference affairs before SEC play resumes on December 29 for this team.
A convincing win over North Florida last time out was a good team to land in recovery mode because this team needs to prove something in New York.
Mark Turgeon? Yeah, he gone! I mean talk about a wild way to now start the season as Conference play has yet to arrive and this team needs a trip to New York right now? Not so much, as Danny Manning has taken on the assignment of fixing a broken program.
This will be an interesting little jaunt over to Brooklyn for this Maryland team that now needs to come together and get on the same page again. Let’s keep in mind that this Terps squad was 5 – 1 and then the schedule really happened if you get my drift.
This team has lost to George Mason and then they barely escaped with wins over Richmond and Hofstra before this 3-game skid came to fruition. Louisville, Virginia Tech, and Northwestern are responsible for the slide and yet this team is only a 5-point underdog against a ranked Florida program?
Do the line setters really think that Danny Manning is going to lead the Terps to become a better basketball team right away? I am going to need to see that happen before I distrust the Gators to find a convincing win in this spot.
The offense has been terrible and that is just shooting the ball so blaming a coach for that really isn’t the case. This team has shot 28.9% from behind the arc this year and that is why they are ranked 314th in the nation.
The 68.6 points per game have this program ranked back at 249th in the land and the Gator defense is pretty damn good.
Eric Ayala is leading this team putting up 13.1 points a night but he is only shooting 33.3% from the floor and 69% from the free-throw line.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Gators are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
- Terrapins are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
- Terrapins are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
- Over is 5-0 in Gators’ last 5 neutral site games.
Free Florida Gators vs. Maryland Terrapins NCAAB Betting Prediction:
Maryland will likely come out guns a blazing trying to show Danny Manning that there is something left in the cupboard. Should Maryland just come out and flop it is just going to continue to be a downhill trend for this Terps program.
I see a strong first half from Maryland but an eventual win from the Gators by the tune of 74 – 66. Wait until the Gators get down a bit before you hit that live bet button to find some better value if you like.
