Duke has come out of their COVID break looking a lot better than they did to start the season. At least they are winning.
Virginia Tech has been a nice story, but I am not sure the ceiling of this club.
The Hokies need a win to stay with the early leaders in the ACC.
Duke Blue Devils
Duke is 3-0 since getting back on the court. Wins are nice but they have not played anyone of significance and they are not covering spreads. They almost lost to Boston College.
Matthew Hurt is having a much better sophomore season, leading the team at 19ppg. Top player Jalen Johnson is still out for the Blue Devils though.
One thing very different about this year’s Duke team is that they don’t play defense. They are giving up 71ppg and that is putting pressure on an offense that is below norms too.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies’ only loss in the ACC is to Louisville by two points on the road. They are playing good ball and have good wins over Clemson and Villanova.
Forward Keve Aluma might be underrated nationally. He is analogous to the team that way. Pretty darn good but not going to wow you. This team is solid in all areas and they don’t beat themselves.
