Duke Blue Devils
Duke has the look of a national champion this season. After storming out to a 10-1 start that included wins over Gonzaga and Kentucky, the Blue Devils have asserted themselves in ACC play, sitting atop the conference with a 9-3 record. They will looking to avenge a heartbreaking home loss to Virginia here.
This is one of Coach K’s best offensive teams ever. The Blue Devils score 80.2 points per game and shoot an efficient 48.5% from the field, good for 17th and 15th in the nation respectively.
Paolo Banchero leads the charge, and the super freshman has lived up to the hype thus far. The 6’10 forward has double-doubled in three of the last five games, and he posted a line of 19 and 7 in the first meeting with Clemson.
Banchero leads the team in scoring (17.2) and rebounding (8.4).
Wendell Moore Jr. has grown so much as a player over the past three years. The versatile forward scores 14.2 ppg, grabs 5.7 rpg, and dishes out a team-leading 4.5 apg.
Trevor Keels pending return should be huge for this one. The 6’4 freshman was posting averages of 11.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, and 3.1 apg.
Mark Williams and A.J. Griffin compliment Banchero in the frontcourt, with the former having 8 double-doubles on the season, and the latter scoring a career-high 27 points in the road win over UNC.
Clemson Tigers
Clemson came away from non-conference play with quality wins over Temple, Drake, and in-state rival South Carolina. The Tigers opened ACC play with a strong road win over UVA, but they’ve dropped three of their last four games.
PJ Hall has taken on a bigger role in year two. The 6’10 big double-doubled in the first matchup with Duke, and he scored a season-high 24 points last time out against UNC. Hall leads the Tigers in scoring with 14.5 points per game, up 15.3 ppg from last season. Hall also grabs 6.1 rebounds per game.
Senior Hunter Tyson expanded the floor and joined him in the frontcourt prior to going down with an injury. The 6’8 forward double-doubled against South Carolina, hit four threes in the win over UVA, and will be sorely missed here.
Third-year guard Al-Amir Dawes starts in the lead guard role, and he’s also taken a step forward this season. Dawes has delivered strong performances against Boston College and NC State, and he’s second on the team in scoring (11.2)
Transfer guards David Collins (USF) and Nick Honor (Fordham) start alongside him in the backcourt, with the former leading the team in rebounding (6.9) and double-doubles (5).
