Oh yeah, we remember you! DePaul and Louisville get together for the first time since 2013 and these programs used to know each other well back in the day. Louisville holds a 38 – 21 edge in the series that dates back to the 1950s and they used to be conference mates for a minute too!
DePaul is also 2 – 23 against the Cardinals from 1996 to their last 2013 meeting with a couple of overtime wins to claim. But, that is history and obviously, no one on this floor really has much of a recollection of any of that old stuff.
DePaul picked up a convincing 20-point win last time out against Duquesne to follow up the first loss to Ill-Chicago the outing before. Javon Freedom-Liberty was the man of the game taking down 26 points in the winning effort.
If he pulls that junk off again he will not be the 6th leading scorer in the country anymore… because he might end up in the top-5 and then some with another big effort in a high-profile game on the ACC Network! Stud!
Louisville will hope to slow that animal down as they similarly took a win last time out after the loss to #22 Michigan State. The recent win over N.C State will hopefully lift the Cards to another win at KFC Yum! Center where they are 3 – 1 this season thus far.
DePaul Blue Demons
#4! Calling Number 4!! Oh, there you are… we need you to go out and put up 25+ points tonight if you could so you can jump in the top-5 scoring leaderboard.
Mission: Accepted! Yeah, Devon Freedom-Liberty isn’t letting this season go to waste and those 21.8 PPG are indeed 6th in the land in scoring. If he increases his average by just one single point he will be 3rd in the nation putting the damn peach in the bucket!
Wait, he’s 6-4 though, how is he doing this rebounding thing like that? The dude is averaging almost 9 boards a night too, and 4 assists and 2 steals, and then, and then, and then! Oh, you know we could sit here and just highlight his efforts from the line, from behind the arc, and he hands out water and Gatorade and towels too, man!
Coach Stubblefield has 40 minutes set for each position on the floor and he has to actually pay Devon to come off the court in gummy bears and Swedish fish. Yeah, I don’t think that’s true but he is on a mission to make this year a big one and he is putting his money where his game is.
Stubblefield would leave all 5 of his starters out there all night if he could, and he practically has so far really. There are 4 dudes on this roster averaging over 30 minutes a night and 3 of them are double-digit scorers.
In fact, there are 4 guys putting up 10+ points a night and two more that ar over 9 a contest so we know where the production will be coming from on Friday night.
Louisville Cardinals
Well, Matty Cross sure left an impression on everyone against N.C State, and what a way to finish the game it was! Cross blocked a 3-point shot attempt and then buried a big one his own to help get the Cards past the Pack last time out, 73 – 68.
Cross has been in a bit of a Sophomore slump as all of his numbers actually down from a season ago. Even his free-throw shooting, rebounds, and assists are not up to what he did a year ago and that is why he not seen a lot of minutes lately.
Luckily for him, he left everyone with a smile and helped his team come up with a big win against an ACC team. Conference wins are always big whether it is December or March.
Noah Locke is the only player on this roster putting up a double-digit average and the rankings show that this team needs to start picking up the pace. Louisville ranks 264th in the nation shooting 42.2% from the floor and it’s even worse from outside. The Cards sit in the 289th slot only shooting 30.6% from 3 but at least the rebounding numbers aren’t terrible.
Malik Williams is putting up some nice numbers scoring 9 points a game while snatching a hair under 10 boards a night. The senior from Fort Wayne, Indiana wants to put 2020 behind him with only 3 appearances a year ago and he’s done well lately scoring in double-digits in the last 3 games.
