The Dayton Flyers are seeking a late push in the quest for the A-10 title. They currently sit in 7th place at 7-5 and are three games behind VCU for the top spot, while Rhode Island sits in 10th place at 6-8.
Rhode Island came up just short against St. Louis in their last game 67-60 on Saturday, while Dayton hasn’t played in a week, but took the L at VCU their last time on the court 76-67.
Dayton Flyers
Anthony Grant’s Flyers have taken a step back in year four, though not too unexpected given the loss of last year’s Naismith Player of the Year, Obi Toppin. The Flyers, who still have hopes of another A10 regular-season title, have struggled to find consistent play despite having five players averaging double-figures. They have dealt with a bunch of injuries and only have had a full roster for five games this season.
Senior Jalen Crutcher has taken over as the leader of the Flyers with Toppin departing to the NBA. Crutcher averages 18.7 points a night for Dayton to lead the team in scoring. He has the ability to take over the game with his scoring and single handily helped Dayton past URI earlier this season. Crutcher and Ibi Watson scored 37 of the 67 points against Dayton in their last contest from earlier this year.
Dayton averages 68.12 points per game which is 257th in the country. In the conference, they score even fewer points at 67.7 per game which is 11th in the A-10.
The Flyers surrender an average of 65.76 points per contest which marks them as the 68th best scoring defense in college basketball.
URI Rams
In their last game against Dayton, the Rams scored their second-worst scoring output of the season with just 56 points on the night. To be fair they did have to play the entire second half with their leading scorer and point guard Fatts Russell (14.2 PPG). He has battled injuries all season long but hopefully, he will be back to full health with two games under his belt since returning.
Even if Russell isn’t 100% the Rams still have an advantage inside, averaging nearly seven more rebounds per game than Dayton, and have the ability to live off second chances and live off points in the paint. Additionally, the Rams have a knack for getting to the free-throw line, averaging seven more attempts a game than Dayton
The Rams are averaging 70.38 points per game on the offensive end of the floor this season, putting them 208th in the nation in scoring offense.
They are an above-average team on the defensive end and surrender 68.57 points a game which is 134th in the country.

Free Dayton Flyers vs. URI Rams NCAAB Prediction:
I smell a rat line here with URI getting 3.5 points, while Dayton is taking 71% of the bets/money. A lot of people still think Anthony Grant’s Dayton team is as good as last year when in reality that’s not the case. They are a very good team, but basically lost their hopes of an at-large bid when they suffered the loss to VCU in their last game. This Flyer’s team is plagued with injuries right now and I don’t see them risking another injury before the A-10 tournament. URI’s leading scorer Fatts Russell should be back to 100% after coming off the bench for the last two games. Russell suffered an injury in the first meeting with Dayton and only played 19 minutes in the contest. He will probably have revenge on his mind and I think he can lift URI past Dayton at home.
