Dayton Flyers
Dayton sured up its strong non-conference resume with blowout wins over Grambling and North Florida, following its second loss, which came on an overtime buzzer-beater, to Colorado.

The Flyers lost just twice, both in overtime and on a neutral floor, to Kansas and Colorado, two schools ranked first and twenty-seventh in the Simple Rating System (SRS), an algorithm developed by Sports-Reference.
As a result, the SRS has Dayton seventh-best in the country, far better than the Flyers’ #20 ranking in the AP Poll.
Dayton shoots thirty-nine percent from three-point range, which looks like a liability next to the rest of its offensive numbers. No team in the nation shoots a better percentage from two (.631) and the Flyers have thrown 254 assists as a team, the seventh-most in the country.
La Salle Explorers
After going 2–11 against non-conference opponents in his first season as a head coach, Ashley Howard and La Salle went 9–3 this year.
Howard took over for his former boss, John Giannini, who was the head coach back when Howard started his professional career as an assistant coach at La Salle in 2004.
After four seasons with the Explorers, Howard branched out to take jobs with Drexel, where he played for three seasons before his career was derailed due to an injury, Xavier and Villanova.
Non-conference defeats in 2019 include at Penn, home against Temple and at Villanova, three Philadelphia schools. The Explorers will get a shot at St. Joseph’s in A-10 play. Wins include Iona, Murray State and Bucknell.
