The BYU Cougars and the Oregon Ducks will face off in the Phil Knight Invitational Tuesday night.
HISTORY: These two storied programs have met sporadically over the years, with Oregon leading the all-time series 14-8, including a pair of wins during the 2013-14 season when the schools had a non-conference battle and NCAA Tournament game.
Oregon is favored by five points as hosts here.
BYU Cougars
BYU has started 2021 with two solid non-conference wins and they’ll look to make it a third this evening. After taking care of Cleveland State at home, BYU defeated their former Mountain West rival San Diego State in a closely contested game, 66-60.
The Cougars are spearheaded by super senior Alex Barcello. This won’t be the 6’2 guard’s first time facing Oregon, as he spent his first two years at Arizona, but he will have much more of a load to shoulder this time around. Barcello leads the team with 20.5 ppg.
There’s a bit of a drop-off in production and reliability beyond Barcello this season. Veteran guard Te’Jon Lucas transferred in after leading Milwaukee U in scoring, and he’s second on the team with 9.5 ppg and 4.0 apg.
Youngsters Caleb Lohner and Fousseyni Traore start up front for BYU, and they both average a strong 8 rpg.
Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks have a respectable non-conference slate, and it started with wins over tournament hopefuls SMU and Texas Southern. They went in as eight-point favorites and covered that with room to spare against SMU, 86-63.
The Ducks were led by their trio of versatile seniors. Will Richardson is bound to take on a bigger role this season now that Chris Duarte has moved on to the NBA. RIchardson is leading the team with 19 ppg, while former Duquense transfer Eric Williams Jr. paced the team with 19 points against SMU.
Dana Altman struck gold in the transfer portal, landing Jacob Young from Rutgers and De’Vion Harmon from Oklahoma. Harmon scored 15 points in the opener against Texas Southern, while Young scored 18 against SMU.
CBB Betting Trends:

Free BYU Cougars vs. Oregon Ducks NCAAB Prediction:
The Ducks are title contenders once again this season, and a nice, nonconference, “neutral site” win here can really send that message.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Oregon -4.5
It seems like Dana Altman loses key pieces annually, but he just keeps retooling and reloading. This Oregon squad is no different, and they will enter this home bout with size, experience, and skill on their side. It feels like a no-brainer and a gift of a spread, so take Oregon to win and cover tonite.
