The Butler Bulldogs will travel to Chicago and take on the DePaul Blue Demons this Tuesday night. Butler won the first meeting in Indianapolis back in December, 63-59.
DePaul may open as the favorites to win here.
Butler Bulldogs
Butler came out of the non-conference slate 7-4 and began Big East play with a home victory over DePaul. The Bulldogs have since struggled with inconsistency, and their only winners of four of their last ten games. Butler did bless loyal bettors with an upset home win over Marquette, 85-79.
Bryce Golden (9.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg) remains a key cog in the Butler for a third straight season. The senior from Richmond, VA came up big in the home victory over Maruqtte last time out, scoring a season-high 22 points.
Aaron Thompson is one of the most experienced guards in the country. The fifth-year starter scored a season-high 25 points against Xavier, and he’s scoring 7.8 ppg, while dishing out a team-high 4.1 apg
A healthy Bryce Nze has really given Butler a boost in the middle. The fifth-year senior does everything you’d love to see from a college basketball player, and he double-doubled in win over Georgetown. Nze averaging 8.3 ppg and 6.1 rpg.
Guards Chuck Harris and Jair Bolden, last year’s leading scorers, remain in the fold, but the latter has struggled to produce since the start of Big East play. Harris leads the team in scoring (10.5), and he scored 15 points in the win over Marquette.
Bo Hodges and Simas Lukosius make the team even deeper, with the latter hitting multiples threes in three of the past four games. Hodges double-doubled in the win over Marquette, and he leads the team in rebounding (6.4), while scoring 8.8 ppg.
DePaul Blue Demons
DePaul jumped out to a 9-1 start after handling a manageable non-conference slate well, with wins over Louisville and Rutgers standing out. Big East play handed them five straight losses and brought the Blue Demons back to life, but they’ve jumped back over .500 with back-to-back wins over Xavier and Georgetown.
The absence of hometown stud Javon Freeman-Liberty has really altered the season. The 6’4 guard’s efforts have kept the Blue Demons afloat, and he led the Big East in scoring at 21.3 ppg prior to going down.
David Jones had a huge game against Georgetown. The 6’6 forward recorded the first triple double in school history (22/14/10), and he’s taken a big step in Freeman-Liberty’s absence. Jones is scoring 14.5 ppg and leading DePaul in rebounding (7.6).
Minnesota transfer Brandon Johnson has come in and been a workhouse, leading the team in minutes while ranking third in both scoring (10.7) and rebounding (7.1).
Nick Ongenda brings even more size to the lineup, and the 6’11 junior is coming off of a season-high 16 points in the win over Georgetown.
CBB Betting Trends:
- DePaul is 8-7 ATS in their last 15 home Big East games.
- Butler is 7-8 ATS in their last 15 road Big East games.
- Over is 4-1 in the Hoyas last 5 road games.
Free Butler Bulldogs vs. DePaul Blue Demons NCAAB Prediction: Butler to Cover
DePaul has fought admirably without Javon Freeman-Liberty, but I have a feeling Butler is going to be in one of those upset spots.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Butler +4.5
Bo Hodges return to the lineup has given Butler life on both sides of the ball. Three of the Bulldogs last six games have resulted in wins, while the other three games have been decided by three points of less. I like them keeping things close again here, and potentially pulling off the upset win here.
