The Razorbacks have won their last 9 games. Oh, stop it, because this is not just another 9-game win streak for the Hogs after what they just pulled off last time out against the #1 Auburn Tigers. Arkansas was already playing pretty well before the bout with the Tigers but for the first time since 1984, the Hogs can say they took down a #1 program in the nation.
Now, everyone will want to see if this team can carry that momentum all the way to the SEC tournament and this year’s event will be featuring some pretty sound programs. The SEC features 11 teams with winning records this year and the SEC tournament is going to be something no one should be without in their lives. March Madness begins with conference tournaments and then we will have so many SEC teams playing post-season hoops.
Alabama is one of those programs with a winning record overall but after losses to both Auburn and Kentucky the Tide are still a game under .500 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide pulled up to 5 – 6 in conference play with their win over Ole Miss last time out as Alabama finally won their second road game of the entire campaign. Alabama is 10 – 2 here at Coleman Coliseum but they’ll have to play the home dog role with the Hogs in town at high noon ET.
Arkansas Razorbacks
So, you think you’re ready for the Hogs, do ya? My goodness, did you see that damn game against Auburn last Tuesday night? 40 minutes just wasn’t enough to decide a winner so Auburn and Arkansas had to play an extra frame to see who would take the W. I don’t think the Hogs faithful have left the court yet and it is like 3 days later, LoL!
What a win for the Hogs at home against the best team in the land as far as the rankings tell us. Oh, Arkansas isn’t good enough to be ranked, by the way. Wait, let me use another one of those… LOL
Let’s go on a limb and say that if Pig Suey escapes Tuscaloosa with a win on Saturday afternoon, the Arkansas Razorbacks will be a top-25 team come Monday! Wyoming and Arkansas are both still unranked and with UConn facing Xavier today having both teams at 24 and 25 respectively, you would think that Auburn is due to make an appearance in the top-25 rankings.
Auburn and Kentucky are still the top-2 teams in the SEC standings, however, but the Hogs will get a crack at Kentucky on Feb 26 on their home court. Oh, that might be fun, just sayin’.
Anyway, in the win over Auburn, JD Notae decided to go off for 28 points and in case you’ve been living under a rock there is this guy, right? He wears the #1 jersey in red and white and the fucking dude is ridiculous! No, in a good way! So, can we count the players who have landed double-digits in every game they have played this year around the entire landscape of NCAA hoops? Well, throw my man on that list because you can only try to contain Mr. Notae but you can’t stop him.
Many a head coach have tried to devise a plan to stop Notae from tearing his program a new asshole, but oops! Yeah, that hasn’t happened yet! The senior from the Golden State wants to leave a lasting memory of what the 2021-22 Hogs accomplished while he goes bonkers on the next defense in line. If I could keep going I would but let’s just expect another solid night from #1 and assume he’ll get his teammates involved enough to keep the Tide D guessing a bit.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Plan A: Stop #1! Yeah, okay, so on to plan B, and that now means that more 3s might be flying up towards the rim as they were for the Tide last time out in the win over Ole Miss, 97 – 83. Jaden Shackelford only made 8 3-point shots in the winning effort, that’s all, pfft. Jesus man, lights out much?
Overall, the Tide buried 14 of their 3s in the win as Shackelford matched his career-high point total with 30 on the night. Alabama scored 49 first-half points in the win and I was the mental midget who thought that under might have a chance to hit. Yeah, Hi. My name is Ej and I fucking blew that call, noted, and thanks for not tearing me up for it out there. That play was dead and buried 8 minutes into the game and I was like okay, yeah, good job Ege!?!
Won’t make that mistake again and I am finding it rather difficult to not think this total is the play here after seeing that with my own eyes. Hey, shots are either dropping or they’re not and Alabama is simply coming off a 97=point outing and the Hogs are in town.
Arkansas has splashed 14 of their Overs this season so both of these programs have been able to see the total get smashed.
JD Davison came off the bench and landed 18 points although Keon Ellis was the only other starter besides Shackelford to land double-digits. Ellis came away with 13 points going 7 of 8 from the floor and 2 for 2 from distance with 2 free throws on his ledger too.
I don’t know if the 3s will be dropping like flies again because the Tide do only make 31.5% of their shots behind the arc which ranks them 295th in the nation. It is nice to see such a performance but can we expect them to match that kind of effort? At home, and with a big opponent that is playing well themselves will sure build the adrenalin for both squads.
