All 12 Sun Belt teams will be in action on Friday night and it will be the last of the games played before the conference tournament.
Appalachian State has secured the 2 seed for the event and they are chasing back-to-back Sun Belt Conference titles after taking last year’s Championship for the first time in program history. The Mountaineers will be in search of only their second Sun Belt championship since joining the conference after the 2014 season.
The Red Wolves have lost 4 of their last 5 games and they’ll be trying to avoid getting swept by the Mountaineers this season after losing the first meeting, 61 – 54. The Red Wolves are holding on to the 6th position in the standings but that is the best they can do towards the conference tourney. With the loss to South Alabama in their only meeting, if they tie with the Jags the Red Wolves will still be the 6th seed. However, with a loss and a win by the Ragin’ Cajuns who are 7-point dogs on the road, they could fall back to the 7th slot for the conference tourney.
Appalachian State Mountaineers
Well, here we are! The final game of the Sun Belt Conference regular season is upon us and the Mountaineers want to try to get back to the tournament title game as they did last season.
Reaching your first-ever Sun Belt Conference Championship didn’t lead to any success in the NCAA Tournament last season as the Mountaineers were one of the First Four participants. Norfolk State ended up taking out the Mountaineers and that’s how last year came to an end for Dustin Kearns’ program.
Kearns has led his team to a third straight winning campaign and he could earn his highest win total of 19 games should he find a way to a road win tonight. The line setters don’t see this team as favorites tonight, however, so they’ll have to take this win as slight underdogs.
Adrian Delphi is worth the price of admission as he finds his way to 17 points a game and the dude can shoot from anywhere on the floor. Delphi is burying nearly 40% of his 3-point shots although he makes only 41% of his shots from everywhere on the floor.
Donovan Gregory and Mike Almonacy are 2nd and 3rd on the scoring depth chart as both bring in just over 10 PPG. The major concern for this year’s team is their free-throw shooting is absolute shit. When you rank ner 350th in the land in anything you are just about the pits of NCAA hoops.
Arkansas State Red Wolves
The Red Wolves have pretty much fallen apart at the wrong time of the year although Norchad Omier hasn’t cooled off at all. Omier is up to 17.4 PPG and those 12 boards a night sure look impressive too.
We could highlight the season just by talking about Omier’s accomplishments this year and since this is the final game of the year let’s talk about the dude a little. Oh, he’s just a frosh because of the eligibility thing from last year so we might be seeing #15 doing damage for a couple of years if he doesn’t go pro. He has reached double-digits in 14 of the last 16 games and did you notice the 65.4% from the floor? The dude can shoot from anywhere on the floor and he’d better do that tonight to keep this team in the game.
Favored? So, the oddsmakers seem to think that because Appalachian State is just waiting for the conference tournament to start so they won’t waste any effort here tonight.
Yeah, this is the last Sun Belt Conference game of the season and the fucking line setters are fucking nuts! This team shouldn’t be favored over me and any 4 friends I can find, much less take out App State tonight. Let’s move on!
