Sunday afternoon it’s the East Regions turn for their Sweet Sixteen matchups as #2 Alabama takes on #11 UCLA. Alabama has coasted through their first two rounds while UCLA continues to advance after coming back to win in a First Four game.
The winner will advance to next weekend to take on either #1 Michigan or #4 Florida State with a shot in the Final Four on the line.
UCLA entered the Big Dance on a 4-game skid and had to play an extra tourney game as it drew a First Four assignment. They needed overtime to beat #11 Michigan State 86-80, followed with a 73-62 first-round victory over #6 BYU, then squashed the dreams of “Cinderella” #14 Abilene Christian 67-47 in the second round to advance to this point.
Sophomore guards Johnny Juzang (22.3 PPG last three games) and Jamie Jaquez Jr. (16.7 PPG) have led the way in the tournament for this Bruins team. Mick Cronin earned his first berth to the NCAA Tournament as the UCLA coach and he has got his team playing fast and aggressive. They have shown no quit in any of their games and are not a team that will roll over for anyone.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Iona was able to keep the game at a reasonable pace and held the Crimson Tide to just 68 points in their first-round loss. That was less than in any of Alabama’s recent SEC Tournament games.
Against Maryland the Crimson Tide got back to their old ways and shot lights out, knocking down 16 3-pointers on 33 attempts or at a 48.5% rate. The Tide won 96-77 and looked much more like the team that was worthy of their #2 seeding. 5 players scored in double figures for the Tide including Jaden Shackelford who scored a team high 21 points and captain John Petty Jr. who dropped 20 of his own.
In the tourney, sophomore Jaden Shackelford is averaging a team-high 15.5 PPG and senior John Petty Jr. has 15.0 PPG.
CBB Betting Trends:
- UCLA is 3-0 SU in this tournament
- UCLA is 3-0 ATS in this tournament
- UCLA is 2-0 SU and ATS as underdogs this tournament
- Crimson Tide are 1-1 ATS this tournament
- Crimson Tide are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 NCAA Tournament games as a favorite.
Free UCLA Bruins vs. Alabama Crimson Tide NCAAB Prediction:
Alabama and UCLA both had similar spreads last round and covered them each with ease. The Tide are powered by their offense as they like to shoot the 3PT shot frequently, a common feature in a Nate Oats team. Mick Cronin has gained a reputation for his teams being hard nosed and stingy on the defensive end which is no exception for this Bruins lineup.
UCLA has been playing much better offensively in the tournament which will need to be the case Sunday to keep up with Alabama. I think they are up to the occasion again and will continue their ATS streak. Back the Bruins and grab the points even with the Tide being too much and advancing to the Elite Eight.
